The Catholic Church teaches that ALL sin is forgivable. ***The unforgivable sin is to die without accepting Christ & His forgiveness… ***
Other “churches” teach other things.

What religion have you been in that taught you something other than what the Catholic Church teaches on this?

Thank you so much…

If you commit one of the Satanic Sins (there are nine), you are punished by the result.

In the Satanic faith, you are punished *by *your sins, not for them. It is up to you to move on with your life after learning from your mistake hence the forgiveness and liberation you’ve given yourself.

The unforgivable sins, I’m guessing, would be:
  1. not having faith in yourself
  2. undying guilt for a past event/deed
Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood

NOTE: I am not nor have I ever been a LaVeyan Satanist. I’ve been Catholic all my life… I just wanted to participate in such an interesting thread. 😃

Where I was, it was generally believed that there were several unforgivable sins. I can’t think of any that a person couldn’t somehow or other commit by accident or unknowingly, and perhaps very easily. It was a constant worry. It’s so scary I’m seeing distortion and having trouble typing just recalling the way it felt, and I can’t say what they were supposed to be. Too scary.
This was in Pentecostal churches primarily.:frighten:

i really don’t understand this…

i was scared too because i had gone away from the faith when young… ended up in “bad company”… etc… really wondered after awhile - a lot - whether i had committed that sin (even though i never went totally away from Christ’s teachings), but never could get anyone to tell me exactly waht it was… until i reverted to Catholicism… The weird thing is that logic dictates (if nothing else) that the only unforgivable sin (if there is only one) is to reject Christ & his sacrifice. I mean, why would Jesus have to die such a horrendous death if we could do antyhing to save ourselves?? But we cannot. So to reject His atonemnet (which the Holy Spirit guides us all our lives to accept) & to reject until death is to reject salvation. But it just goes to show you how logic doesn’t cut it… other forms of Christianity don’t cut it… We have to have the truth that the Catholic Church teaches… the Church instituted by God Himself… Just as Jesus is needed to get into Heaven, His Church is needed to guide us into all truth…

I am interested to know your path of conversion… how you found the Catholic Church, etc.?

The context in which Jesus mentions that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is a sin which cannot be forgiven is interesting.

He has just been accused of healing the sick and raising the dead by the power of Satan.

So, some have said that attributing to Satan the work of the Holy Spirit is the sin which cannot be forgiven. Such an utter confusion about good and evil, holiness and wickedness constitutes evidence for a soul broken beyond repair.

Examples of this abound in varying degrees in our day, but to confuse Jesus with Satan is blatant and immediate.

here’s what the CCC teaches:
1864 “Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit. Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss.”

since JW and LDS don’t believe that Christ is God himself, I don’t know if they fall into this definition.
God bless.

Why does the question even come up? Those who believe in Jesus Christ as God by definition do not reject him. Those who do not believe are not concerned about punishment by him.

Since all versions of life after death are based on Faith, no one will know for certain until they meet their maker or don’t. 😃

you are punished by your sins and not for them???

I thoght in satanism you could do wahtever you want… and they didn’t call it sin…

I have read books about satanism and what you say here doesn’t jive with that too well…

I also dont’ understand other things you say but am running out of time…

but if there is only one unforgivable sin, it would NOT be this… becasue a person can repent of anythin… and God is bigger than our sins… and can and will forgive. He knows how weak we are, how prone to false beliefs, e tc… God is our father… with all that that implies… (He knows more than we do… is far more powerful, etc…) so why would he give someone eternal punishments just for being human/screwed up???

I am so glad i found the true interpretation of this troublesome passage… i no longer doubt about my potential for making it to Heaven… I am SO grateful for the RCC!!! And maybe i appreciate Her far more in light of (comparison to) knowing what its like to be…separated from Her… LOST…more now than if i had never been lost…

I could teach a class called Catholicism Appreciation 101 😃

In the passage, the pepole who defy Jesus have rejected Him KNOWING that HE is God… because only God can do those miraculous things…

they have made their choice against HIm and chosen to be hardened… And THAT is the unforgivable sin… but evne that can be forgiven if one repents… Jesus is warning people NOT to commit that sin.… because to die unrepentent means to die without hope of even Purgatory (forgiveness in the next age)…

God bless…

I know you believe that Jesus is God. I don’t believe Jesus is God. If I did believe that was true, then I would be a Christian.

Could you give an example, other than Satan, of someone who knew that Jesus was God and rejected Him anyway?

I need some Catholicism 101. 🙂

i don’t know of anyone for sure… but i speculate that many who love $ and power and sex… wel… you could say they probably have believed but loved something more than God (Jesus).

This is my version of Catholicism 101 (in brief form): We are all sinners because our minds are distorted by original - and actual -sin - so we desire things that are not good for us & which, when accomplished, lead us away from God and Heaven. We were/are so bad, we couldn’t do anything to save oursleves so God came down from Heaven and suffered & died for us to pay a price we could never pay… We humans want to be perfect but can’t so we have Jesus. Whoever is in Christ Jesus is not in condemnation.

One thing that is not so “101”… (or wasn’t 4 me) is the Real Presence. If you go into a Church and sit quietly with Jesus (just being yourself with Him and listening)… you will experinece Him… and go through things that are necessary to go through… to be purified / ready for Heaven… at least that’s what i go through… A lot of what i go through is VERY mysterious and i cannot explain it here… I don’t u/stand a lot of it… but anyway, i found out not long ago that the Souls in Purgatory are There at the blessed Sacrament as well… No big surprise to me… i always did feel… this weird… unexplanable thing while There… again, i can’t put things into words… that i myslef dont’ u/stand…

Anyway… i am running out of time so have to cut this short…

God bless…

Don’t all sinners love their sin more than Jesus? Why are some unforgivable?

Because:( some people refuse to be forgiven.
Milton put these words in the mouth of Satan::eek: “Better to reign in hell, than to serve in Heaven”.
If someone refuses to be forgiven, that is an act of free will, and God will not force anyone against their will…
To refuse forgiveness, is to choose to join yourself with Satan’s refusal. Now, as long as we live, we can change our minds…but once that choice is carried to the Judge of all the universe, He will give us our sad and bitter choice…even though :crying:He suffered torture, &:crying: He died on the cross of Calvary so that we might be able to choose Him.

Just a quick comment about free will: God will force everyone, whether they “will” to or not, to bend knee before Jesus Christ and acknowledge him as Lord on the last day.

As far as the question, I’m in agreement with the Catholic definition. There is no specific unforgivable sin, per se, the “unforgivable sin” is rejecting forgiveness.

Please forgive me for asking again, but this is a point I would like to understand.

The person who since and then rejects forgiveness is committing the unforgivable sin. This requires that the person believes in Jesus but refuses to confess his sins for whatever reason.

Am I correct in my understanding?

Do suicides who are not mentally ill commit and unforgiveable sin?

Hmmm…I think it may be even stronger than that. Not just refuses to confess sins, but does not want to go to Heaven, because the saved are all the “servants of God”.
Not wanting to serve, they choose hell. (I know; it seems incomprehensible).

I can’t imagine anyone committing suicide that is not under such duress (intractable pain, for example). I certainly believe that we should always pray for the eternal rest of those who kill themselves.
Though now that I think about it…:hmmm: Hitler killed himself, by all accounts, to avoid being taken prisoner & thus humiliated.🤷 (Not commenting on anyone’s eternal destiny; just saying, there are suicides, and then there are suicides.

only problem is; when you get to Hell, you are not going to reign there!! What a lie from the devil.

A man who was an heavy investor in that ponzi scheme just committed suicide. The losses ruined him financially and he had recommended the investments to others who also lost substantial sums. So, he killed himself out of shame and financial loss.

Would this be unforgiveable?
