Haha, couldn’t help myself.

Anyway, I recently read the story of Micah’s idols of God (Judges 17) and I wondered if anyone has an interesting interpretation about this? In particular there’s none of the usual outrage over idols. Why so?
 
I think the key to the story is verse verse 6 - In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in their own eyes.

Here’s what the NAB commentary says: This refrain, which will be repeated fully or in part three more times (18:1; 19:1; 21:25), calls attention to the disorder and lawlessness that prevailed before the establishment of kingship in Israel. In this case the problem is cultic impropriety, seen not only in the making of an idol but in the establishment of a local temple, complete with an ephod and teraphim.
 
One must remember that the story of Judges is the story of the typical sinner.

It’s an endless cycle of:
  1. Fallen away from God
  2. being consumed by sin.
  3. Repenting and turning back to God.
  4. Being saved once again by the workings of God.
