I find it stunning to see Christians questioning whether fellow Christians should be allowed (or encouraged) to read the Word of God for themselves.

Like I said, the translation and printing of the Bible into English (which the CC also does–and sells) is one of the great theological contributions of Protestants to the world.

Like it or not.
Humnnnnnn!!! no, i stick with the Truth. read below

"Let us note that the very tradition, teaching, and faith of the
Catholic Church from the beginning, which the Lord gave, was preached
by the Apostles, and was preserved by the Fathers. On this was the Church founded;
and if anyone departs from this, he neither is nor any longer ought to be called a Christian.
St. Athanasius, Letter to Serapion of Thmuis, 359 A.D…

Where does the CC teach that Catholics crafted the US Constitution?

And why do you charge this person for being hostile toward the CC when all he did was question your erroneous claim about the religious nature of the crafters of the Constitution?
you should seek the Truth for yourself. read below.

jmcrae;6251277:
Jesus did not
use the words “Petros” and “Petra” - Matthew did.

MATTHEW was making the point TO THE GREEKS that Jesus had changed Simon’s name to “Rock.”

“There weren’t any Greeks around when Jesus was speaking to Simon” So Phillip whom the Greeks came up to because they understood the language wanting to see Jesus never existed in John’s Gospel chapter 12. Phillip (being from Bethsaida) NEVER understood Greek in Matthew’s Gospel only in John’s Gospel.

Let me put it into simple language.

Jesus was standing there, right? And Peter was also standing there.

The Disciples were standing near by.

Nobody else was standing near by. (No Greeks lurking on the side-lines listening in.)

So, there would have been no reason for Jesus to speak in the Greek language to Peter.
OHHH I see so when Luke was writing to Greeks, using your logic, he should have used the same wording; after all he was writing to Theophilus a GREEK.
Luke does not even record this incident - Matthew is the only one who mentions it. What are you talking about?

My husband who was an Altar boy and was going to seminery had never read the Bible just heard it at Mass. According to him back in those days they were not encouraged to read the Bible, sad I thiink. He does now and is amazed at what is there. Blinders have been removed. Glory to God.👍

Not all Christian Churches hold and preach the full Deposit of Faith given by Jesus and handed on down through the Apostles, starting when our Lord commissioned them to do so on Pentecost, Peace and God Blessings, :)Carlan
The truth according to whom? The CC? The Lord commissioned us all .

You can stick to whatever you believe is the truth and by whom says it. As for me and my house we will believe in Gods word. God Bless you in your journey with our Savior.

Wisdomseeker,
With all due respect, IF that is truly the way you feel how can you claim to be a truly practicing Roman Catholic? If you do not read God’s word for yourself and only expect the church to teach you what you need to know you are living out a very hollow and shallow faith. Look at it this way; lets say you go to mass on Sunday and maybe on a midday to give you the benefit of the doubt. That means you are only getting spiritually fed on God’s word two times a week. Do you feed your body physical food only twice a week and expect it to survive? How then would your faith be any different? You NEED to be reading your Bible DAILY for spiritual feeding of your soul.

Do you do the liturgy of the hours? Many Catholics I find do not and are shocked to find this tidbit in the catechism.
1176 The celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours demands not only harmonizing the voice with the praying heart, but also a deeper “understanding of the liturgy and of the Bible, especially of the Psalms.”

So you see the catechism is encouraging you to have a deeper understanding of the Liturgy, and of the Bible and of the Psalms. If you say you are trusting the “One Church Jesus founded to lead you” you would be reading your Bible.
You are right Fr John, However, many of us do fall short, we try tho’,so much good stuff available to us these days , a wonderful adult catechism,so very much good publication. Catholic resourses on the internet it goes on and on. And of course the Bible should be at the top of the list, even if time only allows the daily readings . More and more Catholics have been praying the Liturgy of the hours even if only the morning or evening prayer, It is all better than nothing, Right?;)👍:)God bless you and thanks for sharing with us. Carlan

I believe the most important thing Protestants have contributed is reading the Bible and lots of Bible Studies, where without I would not be today and I praise God for all that I have learned.

Yes Tweetymom, the Catholic Church, the Bride of Christ. He sent the Apostles forth on Pentecost to pass to us his revelation.:)Peace Carlan

The Apostles crafted the US Constitution? What does this have to do with your claim that Catholics crafted the US Constitution???

Your Catholic letter claiming that non-Catholics are not “Christian” is not very persuasive, nor particularly relevant.

I really don’t like to address things in percentages but in this case i will:( I will say that Protestant theology teaches about 80% of what is important, so according to that(my calculation :)) they are missing a very important 20%:sad_yes:Peace,Carlan

What part is missing?🤷

yes, well, I can understand the reading of the Bible cover to cover, and many times over, is not something all Christians have managed to accomplish, I do believe the Father would understand that one also. The early Christians did not have access to the NT until it was printed and then it had to be guarded , being so few in the beginning, and of course not everyone was able to read early on, Word of mouth and hearing was the way in the beginning. We are so blessed in our time, what a wonderful gift Christ has given us through his Church.God Bless:)Carlan

Well the problem is I do not agree with all in the catechism.🤷
You have it backwards. Your opinions are not the gold standard to which the Catechism must conform. Rather, the Catechism is the gold standard to which all of our opinions need to conform. We can’t change the Catechism - we have to change our opinions. 🙂

No one is asking any one to change anything. My opinion has and will always remain the same. But thanks
