What time does your church close?

I thought that this would be an interesting question given that these hours aren’t really advertised in a church bulletin or anywhere online. What time does your local church open? Close? I ask because I went yesterday at about 6:45 and was asked to leave at 7 midway through praying the Rosary. I wanted to know how other churches compare.
 
I think mine is locked up about a half hour after the last mass of the day. I wish it was open 24/7.

That is one thing I don’t like about my church. Soon after the last mass, lights start being turned off, so you don’t have a good 15 minutes to pray. I guess the workers have to go home.
 
I used to work in a downtown parish – the custodian locked the doors at about 4:30 p.m.
 
Our parish church only opens for Mass and other liturgies. Outside these times it’s closed. I suppose that’s a reflection on society: people do not respect churches enough not to vandalise them or steal from them. Unfortunately, where I live vandals regularly desecrate cemeteries. It’s all very sad.
 
At my EF parish from the first to last Mass the first being 7AM and the last the EF 6PM.
At my territorial parish weekdays from 7AM to 4PM unless their is Exposition until 8PM
 
My parish is usually unlocked between 7am - 10:30pm. Of course, office hours are much shorter. 🙂
 
It doesn’t, open 24/7. The parish is 150 years old, we have a cemetery. Most of our daytime traffic is from people visiting the cemetery. Of course, sacristy, room behind the altar, usher’s room, confessionals, parish halls, and office are locked. We’re blessed! Our church is a quarter of a mile from the main road. You have to fully intend to turn on the road, and drive to our church or cemetery.

In the 3 years I’ve been a parishioner, we’ve only been bothered twice. Parish hall windows were egged, and the Lighthouse display kiosk’s hinges were jimmyed, for the money inside the money box.

We have parishioners who are County Sheriffs, they make erratic patrols of the grounds, night and day. I’ve seen them taking car license plate numbers down. I asked one of the sheriffs, why they make such a grand gesture about scrutinizing cars and license plates. “Deterrent.”, he said, " Presence makes all the difference in the world."
 
Before I moved to malaysia, my Parish in South Africa opened in the morning around 8 or 9 then they will close it around 18:00 except if there is a mass, then it would be close around 19:00 directly after mass…

Here… well I havn’t seen a church that’s open outside of mass times, except the cathedral (but I have to add… that I don’t go there if there is no mass, so I am not so sure about it)
 
At my old school, the chapel was open 24 hours a day - which I used on occasion. Down the street was a Congregational Church, that while only open for services or events, had a small 24 hour prayer chapel on its grounds.

My home church leaves the side doors open all night, but locks the front doors, though we almost reconsidered after a donation box was stolen. Unfortunately, we removed the donation box, but kept the church itself open.

Our church is open during mass, the priest arrives about half an hour before for confessions and then it takes a few minutes to close it up. That would be on Saturday from 3:30 to about 5:15 pm.

The chapel is open on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. for adoration.

The chapel is open from about 8:30 am to 9:30 am on Thursdays when our priest comes to hear confession and say daily mass.

ours is a downtown church and for security reasons is open only during Mass and other services. we have a chapel which is open whenever the parish office is open, regular business hours.
 
Our church is available to parishioners 24/7. However, a few years ago, the pastor had a key pad lock installed due to occassional malicious mischief by certain individuals (ours is a downtown church too). So we began locking the door in the evenings but Adorers have a code to enter the Church after it has been locked. No one is asked to leave when the doors are being locked. We now have two key pad lock entrances one that is wheelchair accessable.
 
Our Church is normally open only around Mass times. We do have a 24/7 Adoration Chapel, the door is equipped with a coded door lock.

See if you can find a room that could be used as a perpetual adoration chaple. I don’t know your parish of course, but that would solve the problem your having. Father should be able to help with this. It is difficult to schedule for someone to be there around the clock.
 
Mine is “open” for Mass. Locked the rest of the time. Unfortunately that is necessary due to the neighborhood where it is located. Too bad, because I would love to be able to stop in there and pray.

I have, however, found an alternative. About 4 or 5 miles down the road is another, larger church. The front doors appear to be unlocked during daylight hours, and there are doors with coded keypads on the side that one can access 24/7… I go there almost daily, as it is near my work place.
 
Our church is locked all the time except during mass or a meeting. However, I believe that everyone knows where the key is hidden and we are always free to come to church and pray any time of the day or night. I do love my little church.
 
Like many of you have mentioned ours is closed except when Mass is on. I would like to be able to pop in on my way to or from work for a few moments, but the location of the church makes keeping it open impossible.
