So, I face a number of difficulties and obstacles to becoming Catholic. None of them are insurmountable, but I’ve realized that I am the one holding back. I’m nervous about this - fear of others opinions, fear of being wrong, the task of trying to convince my husband to go along with helping me, and I wondered - what was it that convinced you, as a convert, or cradle Catholic who came to a strong belief as you grew up in the church, that the Catholic church was the one true church? Why should I believe it? ANy help, much appreciated.

You’re going to get this everywhere, no matter what faith you are.
Haven’t you seen this on CAF?
Someone always thinks a person in wrong.
It’s between you and God. His opinion is the only one that matters.

true, true. I guess I’m curious what was the clincher for others. I believe absolutely in the real presence, to the point that I’ve stopped receiving communion in my own church. I don’t know why I don’t have the courage to push forward, I feel like I’m missing something obvious.

Well, you’re on the path. Don’t become discouraged. I think sometimes people think something BIG will happen…indeed, sometimes it does, and then sometimes you have to listen to “that still, small voice”.
Be assured of my prayers!
Peace friend!

I’m in the process of converting myself; welcome home! 😃

This video of something Archbishop Fulton Sheen wrote in the preface of a book is just beautiful; you may find it helpful.

I was baptized into the Catholic Church, was orphaned at age of 5, abused and misused to the age of l5,at this time I became evangelized by the actions of holy people, actually took unto myself seriously what I learned in Catholic Schools. Studied for the Priesthood, stress issues prevented me from continuing, but I learned more about my faith while in the seminary and carried it over into my private married life. Life was very hard for me, but I always prayed to God, He took the place of my earthly father, since I had none, except biologically. While God sustained me in my trials, because I could have become very bitter with people and life, God prevented me. through a lot of spiritual trials, I began to experience some supernatural events in my life. eg. The real presence of Jesus in the Chalice during Mass. I am no allowed in CAF to go into detail, but my present spiritual state is strong personally that even if my life was threatened, I could not deny it, I am confirmed in my faith. I know that Jesus is God, and He exists, I don’t have any doubts about the Transubstantiation, nor do I have any doubts about the Catholic Church and her teaching. These truths have been confirmed for me, time and time again. Don’t be afraid, Satan can use all kinds of fears and doubts to keep you from coming closer to God in Jesus Christ. I also experienced his reality, spiritually and physically. Jesus and Mary are your protectors, no need to fear. Ask Jesus to pour His Spirit into your soul, He will enlighten you, and open doors for you. Our Faith in Jesus Christ the founder of our Church is the most precious, and most beautiful gift we have on earth, if only more people would realize it!

What makes me feel most comfortable is the history of the church. dating back to the Apostles, which shows that what their church is very close to what the Catholic church looks like today. So many features are basically the same, and the Fathers and Doctors of the church at the earliest times preaching and writing the same ideas as the bishops and the church are saying today. This is why I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, in spite of all the scandal and blots on it’s name, that it is the one Jesus set up.

May God bless and keep you. May God’s face shine on you. May God be kind to you and give you peace.

My major intellectual tipping point was sola Scriptura and the issue of the canon. That is what lead to me going to RCIA.

Frankly, I saw that even individuals whom I greatly admired had trouble defending it, folks like James White.

But my spiritual tipping point was getting Baptized, Confirmed, and receiving Communion for the first time. Up until that time, I still had some reservations. But I strongly perceived that those Sacraments had instantly and utterly transformed me, and I would be a fool to deny that.

(When I started posting on this forum, almost 11 years ago, I was an angry atheist who dabbled in the occult. I spent most of my time here poking holes in religion. If there’s anything I really needed in order to convert, it was spiritual consolations. I’ve been utterly amazed at how generous God has been with those, just as I am aware that consolations are for beginners who still need a great deal of work.)

My wife and I converted last year. I had been struggling with faith and was looking for something that made sense to me. I had considered Islam at some point, but couldn’t shake the idea that Jesus was only a prophet and not God since I had been raised Protestant. I began doing research on Catholicism and thought, “they have cool rituals, and I have a good reason to make the sign of the cross!” So, we began RCIA, which was the same month if not the next after pur decision. I had my doubts still, but pushed through them. Even up to my Confirmation, I had doubts.

Now, I look back and realize becoming Catholic was one of the best decisions I had ever made. There is an endless amount of things to learn and study within the faith. You can study the life of a single Saint for years, just one!

There will always be those who will challenge you and condemn you for being Catholic. Just remember; you have no reason to be sorry for your beliefs, don’t let anyone make you feel that way and Protestants would not have their belief system if it wasn’t for us.

Your religion on your profile says “protestant coming home,” and you’ve also expressed your belief in the Real Presence, which I struggled with, to the point where you don’t take communion at your other church… a seminarian that just left our parish told me that he believes the Catholic Church to be the True Church. If they are the One True Church, why would they lie to us? It sounds to me you know where your home is.

I will pray for you right after I post this. I will say a Hail Mary for you. God bless you.
