In past reading of this version of the bible, I have read things that don’t seem right. (Luke 1-28NAB vs. Vulgate and DRB)

While looking up lyrics for latin hymms I found this link on “Fish Eaters”.

catholicintl.com/epologetics/articles/bible/nab1.htm

I must say I am shocked. They seem to have many good points.

What have you heard about this site and/or what do you think of their conculsions NAB?

Really confused,

It’s really ironic that you posted this today since as of lastnight I’d never seen the site. I stumbled upon it from following links and at first didn’t think much was wrong. I became uncomfortable when I read some of the forum topics and saw a lot of SSPX info. Frankly, I’m not interested in spending too much time with this type of thing. A trusted old priest that I know told me without bashing the movement (SSPX ) why it’s best not to consider it. I don’t need to listen to who knows who try to explain why it’s legit.

Hi.

I understand your confusion. CAI (to me) is a group of people who got together on the web and started posting their views on things. While some of their points are useful - you’d be better off referring to the Cathechism for your questions, as their viewpoint can get you off into areas that would only deepen your confusion.

As for the Fisheaters site - stay away from that altogether, for now at least. That is an SSPX site, which have been excommunicated for their actions. Search CAF for SSPX and learn all about it.

While I pesonally agree with that author about the NAB…at least parts of his statements - if the notes bother you - don’t read them. I remember several threads about the NAB notes also - search them out - or start another one.

When I was exploring the faith I spent a LOT of time here and in the Cathechism. I completed RCIA last April, and I never looked back.

You will find a LOT of deceptive (un-intentionally or otherwise) information (and websites) out there concerning the Church - be assured that most if not all charges against the Church have been answered here, at least once - lol

Good Luck and God Bless

Thanks for replying.

What is “SSPX”?

The Society of Saint Pius X. They, or more specifically, it’s founder, Archbishop Lefebreve (sp?) was excommunicated when he ordained and consecrated four bishops against the Pope’s consent.

The best bible is the one that you will read. The NAB is a easy to read approved translation. But to get to the deeper sense of a passage it is good to read 3 or 4 different translations.
Remember they all are translations except the original texts and those are translations of the languages spoken. So if one is not fluent in Aramaic, Ancient Greek or Latin. Look for the approvial of the bishops in the front of the translation. The bottom line is that the Church is the mother of the bible and Mother gives us guidelines to comprehend the good book.

I 100% agree! I sometimes get overwhelmed by those who think the DRB is the only bible. It reminds me of the Protestant KJV only people. That is why we have the Magisterium.

The NAB’s notes are pretty bad. The translation itself is not that bad. It’s easy to read and understand, and it sounds great out loud in comparison to the RSV and the DRV. If you use the NAB, I would use a different translation for the psalms, and read the notes in it very skeptically.

The magisterium corrects more things from other translations than it does the Douay Rheims but if one will listen to the magisterium one can profit from many different bible translations.

I wonder if the Imprimatur & Nihil Obstat endorsement on an English Bible Translantion extends to the Footnotes and the other Parts?
I know it does for the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible RSV-Second Catholic Edition., as it is so stated.**
