What to buy a Nun?

Hello-

A very found acquaintance is making Her final vows tomorrow. She will be a Franciscan sister. I would like to get her a little something. Any ideas?

Well, anything you would buy any secular aquaintance given the individuals tastes would be appropriate. Remember they are human too. At Christmas I allways get our Bishop a carton of his favorite brand of cigarettes (he smokes like a chimeny). Our parish priest has a love of movies (he has a collection now of over 300 DVD’s that parishoners have given him as gifts).
 
You could give her a nice journal with a religous picture on it or a statue of her favarite saint.

My idea is not so much for the present but maybe a future gift…if you are inclined to any kind of craft making (sewing, beading, knitting, scrapbooking).
Maybe a beautiful handmade rosary,
a prayer shawl (can be knitted, weaved, quilted),
handmade journal - my fav idea!!
 
Another idea which is always nice, though not really bought, is to put together a spiritual bouquet. This is where you say (or comit to saying) a certain number of prayers for someone and then you write up a nice card telling them what, and how many, prayers you are saying for them. As for presentation you can do a simple card, or get an actual bouquet of flowers, maybe having each flower represent a prayer that you have said for them with a card to explain it all. If you are artsy at all you can expand on this theme and come up with all sorts of different ways to make a ‘bouquet’ which represents the prayerss offered for your friend. Good luck. 🙂
 
You could make a donation to her religious community to celebrate the occasion.
 
Keep in mind that she can only keep a gift if her superior allows her to.
 
She’s marrying the King of the Universe. She doesn’t need much;)

Maybe have some masses said for her intentions.

I think that is a great gift. When ever I go to jubilee celebrations of nuns in lieu of gifts they ask for a donation to their community.
 
Franciscans take a vow of poverty, so she may not be able to keep a personal gift. Instead donate to her community or one of their charities.

Vows of poverty do not preclude small simple gifts. Although a donation is a nice idea as well.

Chocolate is usually appreciated.

Donation to her order/buying them something they need (may need to ask superior what they need in XYZ price range). For example, juicer, coffee maker, toaster, hair dryer, car!..
