If two people are living as man and wife, one of them was previously married and does not have a declaration of nullity from the first marriage, and the previous spouse is still alive, those two people are objectively committing adultery. That’s a fact.

The Pope cannot say that unrepentant mortal sin is okay.

My husband went through the nullity process for his first marriage. We are sacramentally married. I’m not an expert but I do have some knowledge of the process given that he went through it.

No, he can’t. Jesus told the adulteress that he did not condemn her, and then told her to go sin no more. The pope has the ability to not condemn anyone, that is different than saying mortal sin is okay. As to remarriage after divorce, you might want to educate yourself on what the internal forum is if you don’t know already, and ask the question, is that what the pope is allowing for in opposition to what has gone on before.

Such a sad state of affairs. Her husband was committing adultery, not her, unless she was also doing the same which I doubt. Of course the priest knows himself and the Church, and should act at all times truly mercifully.

She did the right thing contacting the bishop. God knows, there could be anything going on! Bless her, anyway, for knowing her faith. Her faith will carry her, sinner or saint!

Why doesn’t she just go to another parish and not volunteer any information about her marital status until everything’s resolved?
