I was wondering. I am currently in the state of mortal sin and therefore cannot receive the Eucharist. I miss having the Eucharist and I have noticed that receiveing Christ on a daily basis tends to help me resist the sins I am having problems with. When I do not recieve Christ in the most blessed sacrament I tend to lapse into those horrid activies and big time. I want to recieve the Eucharist as to help me stop sinning but, the churches that I know of don’t have time alloted for confession till Saterday at the earliest. It just feels wrong to go knock on a priests door and demand that they hear my confession NOW. But, I don’t want to risk going anylonger without Christs grace in fear of lapseing again. What should I do? Thanks and God bless.

Call the church office and make an appointment with the priest to hear your confession – this is nothing out of the ordinary and doesn’t place any unreasonable demand on the priest

Go to confession. Go as often as you need to go. We struggle with sin and confession is how we do it. To not go is to give into it.

If it’s any comfort, most parish priests keep time slots open specifically for unexpected short meetings and confessions. Give it a try and call your parish office.

Meanwhile, keep in mind also that you are giving Jesus an even more beautiful gift than usual when you resist temptations at times when it is more difficult for you to do so! In times of temptation you could offer your sufferings up as prayers for us here on the CAF! …pretty please?

Since you said, “the churches that I know of…” could it be that there are churches that you don’t know of who might offer Confession at more frequent or convenient times? Maybe you can find out here:

If not, I agree: call a priest and schedule an appointment. A confession takes all of–what–5 minutes, start to finish? Most priests would be delighted to accomodate you.

Hear hear - it’s a priest’s JOB to administer the Sacraments - the two most important being reconciliation and the Eucharist. The two go hand in hand - since the first is necessary often to prepare us fully to receive the latter.

If he has time for daily or near-daily Mass then he should have time to hear at least a few confessions daily too. Don’t feel like you’re burdening him.

Get to confession FORTHWITH. Don’t stay in a state of mortal sin! What if you died like that?

As for bothering a priest, that’s what priests are for! Those guys spend years and years in seminary precisely to be able to administer the sacraments as and when needed!

If a priest is disgruntled about hearing confessions which include mortal sins on a moment’s notice, he isn’t much of a priest. Any chance you can regularly go to Reconciliation right before those daily masses on a regular basis?

God bless.

Not a bad idea - make a standing appointment on as frequent a basis as you think you need, whether it’s monthly, every other week or even weekly.
