I am taking classes to convert to the Catholic Faith. Right now I can not take Communion until I am confirmed at Easter. What do I do when I walk up with the congregation to take communion? Some tell me to cross my arms, some tell me to bow… I’m confused and embarrassed now what I need to do.

Technically you don’t need to go anywhere during communion. You can remain in your pew. However on a practical level that’s not always possible if you’re in the middle of the pew. In such situations you can walk with the procession line for communion and when you come to the minister of communion you can simply bow your head and walk past.

There is no standardized posture for such a situation so whether you cross your arms or not is up to you. Perhaps you could discuss this in RCIA so that everyone is on the same page.
