What to do on your patron saint's feast day?

Hello, All!

Hope you all had a very blessed Easter! :highprayer:

One thing that has occurred to me at the service was when they asked for the intersession of the saints: what does one do on their patron saint’s feast day?

For example my patron saint is St. George (go figure :p) so I’m wondering if there are specific prayers or novenas I can pray or if there’s a candle I can light in his honor or if going to morning Mass would suffice.

What would you guys suggest? What does the Church suggest? Could I make that day a special day for me and for my saint?
 
My patron saint’s feast day is my birthday, so we have a prayer and a party.

Actually, now I’m so far from any family and my birthday occurs at the busiest and most frantic time of our school year and I’m usually just grateful to get through the day without any huge drama, mishaps, tears or tantrums.
 
In our family, we celebrate our saint’s day with a saint’s day pie. 👍
 
Mine is St. Joseph’s Solemnity (The Husband of Mary, 19th March), and so I have no option for the whole Church honours the day. However I can make my own way of celebrating and honouring the day including making a novena (the peak being 19th), or saying special prayers of my Patron Saint on the very day. This is to ensure that the day finds me in a good spiritual state, and therefore I struggle to receive very important Sacraments on this day including the Holy Eucharist and, of course, Reconciliation (which can be done even few days before).

I thank God that I had accessibility to all these and out of grace the very day became a big and very memorable day by having the Inauguration Mass of His Holiness Pope Francis of which I followed.

Thank you Jesu, praise you Jesus!
St. George, pray for us!
St. Joseph, pray for us!
 
So I take it that what you do on your saint’s day depends what you feel is right, like reading scripture, praying for intercession and even celebrating with pie? 🙂

Yes, of course! But with intention of seeking benefits for the soul, even if it is celebrating it with pie!
 
A friend who lived in Mexico for a while told me that it was customary where he lived for people to take the day off from work to celebrate the feast day of their patron saint. Wouldn’t it be nice to see people that excited about their saints everywhere?👍

I would love to be able to do that! I’d be able to hit weekly Mass!
 
Seems to me that we ought to be able to have a feast on a feast day. (Can you tell that I like to eat?)

I came into full communion with the Catholic Church 5 1/2 years ago, and I haven’t gotten a good answer for why we don’t have feasts on all these feast days (except for the answer that we’d gain too much weight).

Having pie seems like a good compromise option. And praying. And…, now that I think of it, going to mass. And…, one year I sent out an email to my friends telling them about my saint (St. Barnabas), and sharing why his virtues and faith are worth emulating. Finally, maybe thanking your saint for the many prayers and examples he or she has provided to you, and thanking God for that saint, too.
