What to do when having feelings to just give up nothing is going right for me right now my prayer life is really poor and I just have bad luck? I try to pray but I don’t know if it’s effective enough I know everyone goes through bad things but a lot of times I feel like God is ignoring me completely.

Your prayers will never be “effective enough”. That is why the Divine Mercy of Jesus humbles himself and comes down to us and fills us up in all of our inadequacies. Don’t despair that things are not going well.

Remember to always profit from your faults & continue to pray with confidence. God loves you, including when he seems far away.

Please read carefully & reflect:

Do like Dory: just keep swimming.

Seriously. No matter how it feels, the reality is that God is personally focused on getting you into heaven. Hang on and trust God. It’ll all be OK.

Go to mass as often as possible. Lay your troubles down at the foot of the cross and leave them there for God to take care of.

Perhaps some counseling would help, you sound a bit depressed between this and your other thread. I remembered you in my prayers at mass today.

I think everyone has such feelings at one time or another. I would suggest, in addition to prayer, try meditation, exercise at the gym or outdoors, get a new hobby, look for a more fulfilling job, talk and interact with friends and family, adopt a pet, read spiritual and/or self-help books, help others (such as volunteer work at a hospital or soup kitchen), or, if necessary, seek professional counseling.

I am reading the book of Matthew and I am also in physical therapy but its just life in general that is bad for me.

It may seem counterintuitive, but cry. I’m dead serious.

Taxi? Neighbor, friend? Public transportation?

If you are not attending mass, that may be part of why you feel as you do.

I have another question I want to ask but won’t make another thread. Is it right to not want 2 people to raise a child alone or by having them bounce from house to house?

That would all depend on the situation. If you really want answers to that, you should ask, with more detail what you are really asking in the family life sub forum, or parenting.

If by this you mean an arrangement where the parents are not together and the children go from one’s house to the other’s, there’s a judge who requires the parents to move in and out so the children can live in one house.

John,
Call the parish office and see if the Knights of Columbus or St Vincent de Paul can bring you to see the priest. There are people who will reach out and help. But you have to ask.

Catch a taxi? Uber? Or ring the Diocese office and see if there is a Sunday pick up

All the more you know that you need God dearly.

Persevere.

Sometimes all I can do is several repetitions of something like the Lords prayer or Hail Mary. Do what you can, try not to worry, then start again next time.

Not being able to access mass is hard.

You need to make another thread. Your question has no context, and is not clear as to what you are asking.

Try a more structured prayer, like the Liturgy of the Hours. Or say the rosary but at the time of the Canonical hours. I prefer the LOTH, the psalms make us realize we weren’t, and aren’t alone.

That said make it your job. Go to “work” even when you don’t feel like it. Remember that the LOTH isn’t just praying for yourself, you will be praying with the Church, for the Church and all her members.

It will give your day structure, will give you a job to do, and allows you to participate in the Church’s liturgy even when you can’t make it to Mass. Persevere in it just like you would in a regular job. Set your alarm in the morning so you’re on time for the first prayer of the day.

Humans instinctively don’t do well without a sense of purpose. This will give you purpose and will open a channel to God.

Trust me it works. I’ve been praying the LOTH for many years ago, but in 2014 when I was forced into early retirement by rapacious capitalism, it literally saved my life, especially on days when I was unsure what to do with myself.

God bless and you will be in my prayers.

Like what the others said, continue praying and doing what you are supposed to do. Even if there are no good results, when they do not seem ‘to work’. They say that all the more you should pray when you do not feel like it.

There is nowhere to go but up.
