What to do when you wake up at 3 a.m

I don’t get the big jokes over this.

3:00 PM is the Hour of Divine Mercy, I think they say 3:00 AM is the Devil’s Hour or something. The thing is, it’s always 3 somewhere in the world either way. Sometimes, I will say the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 2:00 PM, knowing it’s already 3:00 PM on the West Coast. I’d not joke one little bit on this.

I at least, acknowledge that this is the hour where the prince of darkness may be stronger. The exorcism of Emily Rose or one of those movies (that is about the only Exorcism movie I’ve seen besides the Exorcist) might have something on this in the movie.

Yes, 3 AM is called the Witching Hour, say a chaplet of Divine Mercy if one gets a chance.

Why is 3 am the devil’s hour according to the Bible?

My note in case, they do make the case. I am reading it still. I’m not endorsing this.

For me all 24 hours of the day belong to God, even 3 AM.

I still pray the St. Michael prayer and the Guardian angel prayer when I wake up in the wee small hours of the morning to remind me God is still in charge no matter the time of day.

😀

And you say prayers which acknowledges it’s a good thing to do. It’s kind of like when people say “God is in control”, true, but we need to pray, sacrifice, we need to ward off evil.

For all I know, the concept of a “witching hour” is a Medieval conception and not really Biblical but I will err on the side of caution.

I woke up last night at 3am. I got up and
made me something to eat, watched TV and did a crossword puzzle.

If I have trouble sleeping, I recite Hail Marys over and over again.
I liken myself to a small child muttering “mama, mama” as I eventually fall asleep.

Post to CAF
Then get started on my work for the day

If feeling very anxious, I might pray, but I like to get some work done first and pray a little later.

Get up, get ready, and go to work. I work in a hospital. Last winter during the flu epidemic, I was up at 3:00 a.m. almost every weekday and working 10 hour days.

Matins aka the office of readings.
I had to take my own advice last night.

I have to admit that by the time I got to the excerpt by Pope St. Leo I was only half awake. I couldn’t comprehend it. I’ll have to go back to it later today. 😔

Pray a St. Michael the Archangel prayer.

Pray the Rosary.

Stare at my wife until she wakes up and say, “It rubs the lotion on its skin, it does this whenever it is told.”

Stations of the Cross/ or brief meditation on Jesus Passion/ or Divine Mercy Chaplet, were asked of by Jesus to be said at 3pm, (mentioned in saint faustina’s diary) (any of these could be said at 3am also? I heard of a priest who said he often woke at 3am and said the Divine Mercy chaplet for the souls of the dying, and believed it was his angel guardian waking him up to do this task).

Also: catholic Exorcists state that just as 3pm is the hour Jesus died, 3am is the hour satanists do their satanic masses, in blasphemy against the Eucharist,

So praying against such evil is another thing you could do at 3am.

Or just go back to sleep, Lol

Maybe you just naturally awaken at that time.
Or maybe there is no harm in sprinkling a drop of Holy Water around your room at night and saying the St Michael prayer before sleep, that God will grant you an undisturbed slumber.

Hi all. I’m new here, but have been reading posts for some time.

I pray the rosary, and have the perfect one for such an occasion - an indestructible, corded rosary I found at a Goodwill and had blessed. It stays on my night stand, and there are no worries of it getting broken.

What better way to fall back to sleep, praying to our Blessed Mother.

I read. My mind wanders.

I have insomnia frequently. I stay in bed because I’m usually pretty cold at nighttime. I inevitably stay awake and fall asleep slightly before my alarm goes off.

😴

Pray. I for one don’t start the rosary as such cos I like to finish but I go for more mental prayer and just chat away asking God to help sleep and telling him all my worries and asking him to take them all. I do often get up in case there was something that woke me. I always wake in the night, in fact if I slept more than 3hrs in a row I’d probably be shocked. I usually go back to sleep easily enough unless I have a lot on my mind, hence asking God to take all on mind and sort it out for me.

So, if I don’t need the loo I worry why I’ve woken up at 3am, I say a short prayer if that’s the case, then something wonderful happens…💤💤💤

Whatever else you do (pray, watch TV, exercise, read), do NOT eat. That is sure to keep you up even longer as well as get you gaining weight if it becomes a habit.
