I’m not even sure if this question belongs here or on another thread but here goes…
[SIGN]What should I do with a broken blessed statue? [/SIGN]
It’s a ceramic image of the Sacred Heart with a wooden frame panel. It’s pretty old (from my grandmother probably 1940’s or 50’s) and broken in several pieces. I discovered it after cleaning out my closet. I don’t think it can be restored in any way. I’m pretty sure my grandparents had it blessed as it used to grace the altar of their house. Is it okay to throw it out with the other garbage or is there some proper way to dispose of it? I don’t want to do anything sacriligeous.

I think someone asked something similiar on another site. The priest said to bury it if possible, to try to be reverent, not just toss it on top of today’s dinner, so to speak. He also told her if she had a lot of prayer/novena cards and pamphlets, to leave them in a church or for someone else to find.
Hopefully someone will have something more definitive.

Thanks!
I think I will also ask a priest next time I go for confession.

I dont know, but I am kinda weird with this kind of thing, and I personally would simply keep it out of love for my family that cared for it before me.

Its being “broken” does not lessen its value if one can get past it not being “perfect” as none of us will be until we are in heaven.

Just a thought., But feel free to do whatever your Priest advises.

First thing I thought of - going to Walmart or any store, buy a superglue bottle and put the pieces together. You can do it 😉 - I did quite few times in the past for friends’ statues.

I like old statues.

I had a ceramic statue that shattered on the floor. I was devastated but my aunt a Catholic Nun took all the peices to her convent and miracle upon miracles, they painstakingly put peice by peice together and today you can barely tell it was in a million peices.

Now the statue has even more meaning. I’m so glad my aunt was there.
