What to do with a King James Bible

I wonder of some of the confusion of King James I being Catholic is coming in over the following:
1 his wife/ consort Anne Of Denmark was believed do be Catholic

2 you have James II being considered the “Last Catholic King of England” with him being overthrown by the Whig party in favor of William of Orange the Protestant. You then had the young pretender Bonnie Prince Charlie come lead the Jacobite rebellion to try to restore the Stewart throne but this failed.

You have said a MOUTH FULL with that line highlighted. I think this may have contributed to the confusion with Fr. John’s post re King James being Catholic also. On one hand you have one source saying he was clearly C of E then another saying that he had a conspiracy with his Catholic wife, another saying that his successor James II was the “Last Catholic King” Yet another saying he was not Catholic enough so hence the Gunpowder Treason was Hatched, You even have some sources that claim the KJV to be a “Catholic Bible” much to the dislike of Roman Catholics. (I have seem websites that claim such) I suppose taken in the light of the Geneva Bible in comparison the KJV is Catholic. I will admit that in TODAY’S eyes it is far from a Catholic Bible, at least today’s version that removed the Apocrypha. I can see, in the light of the times that it could be called such.

I have been praying for your eyes. That cannot be fun especially if you have had the lazer surgery to re-attach the retina.
 
As to James’ baptism, yes, I know.

But James I was not a Roman Catholic king of England. His attitude toward the RCs in his realm varied, according to the conditions, beginning with a moderate, but not terribly friendly, tone. The Gunpowder Plot, one of several that had RC backing, changed things. The resulting Recusants Act returned things to conditions similar to those Elizabeth used, though less heavy-handed.

Glad the eyes are improving. I have a friend, in the comic industry, who went through that.

Your point about the murkiness of the history is well-taken. History is, as I am fond of repeating, complicated. I doubt you can find a more complicated example than Ireland.

My wife had a very nice family sized KJV bible before we were married. A few years after we married she converted to Catholicism. She was in the Air National Guard so she gave it to the protestant chaplain on base. He sent her a very nice thank you letter. We were very happy to give it to them.

Thanks, Jharek, for your witness…my father was very interested in Irish history and visited a Captain Duffy in our parts…but my dad later lost interest…too much stubbornness…he tried to learn the Irish jig and we were all embarrassed…

But, sorry, I went through some of the posts…there is a King James version coming out…and the ad is saying that the King James kept the canons in the right intended order, so that makes it the correct Bible…I am not versed in such backgrounds on assembling Scripture…so in simple terms, where is the King James Bible for Catholic understanding and how accurate is it? Sorry to be repetitious…

Just keep it simple for simpleton me.

I would like to give it to some protestant organization, but don’t know who that would be.

It is the word of God although incomplete and I surely can’t just toss it out.

I’ve not read the whole thread and I’m sure it’s already been suggested, but why not consider giving it to a prison or army chaplin. 👍
