What to do with Baptism Candle?

What did you do with your child’s baptism candle? I was cleaning out my daughter’s closet the other day when I found her baptism candle. I don’t want to throw it away but I also don’t want it to just collect dust. Any ideas?

One thing NOT to do with it is to place it in a memory box and store in the attic

We inadvertently did this with our sons and it ended up melting all over his baptismal garment.

We were more careful where we stored our daughter’s and were able to bring it out during her preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion and used it during family prayer time then.

One tradition I’m aware of is to light it as the centerpiece during the family celebrations of First Communion and Confirmation. The trick is not to lose track of it during all those intervening years (or, as noted earlier, not to keep it someplace so hot it melts).

Light it for a short while every year on the feast of their Baptism, as reminder.

While I can’t recall what my parents would have done with I and my siblings baptismal candles when we were kids, I do know that every year during the renewal of baptismal vows at Easter vigils, the candles we used at Mass are later used at home daily, during early morning devotions when we pray the rosary till whenever it burns out.

I did the same thing you did with your child’s.

Well, I did.

I put it in a box and it ended up in the back of the closet, only to be found when I cleaned.

I found it again about a month after his First Communion. Then it was in another box until about a year after his Confirmation.
