I would be happy to discuss the issues below.

For Jehovah Witnesses:
John 6 says, “unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no life within you.” Catholics believe that Jesus is truly, physically present in the Eucharist. Do you partake of the flesh of Christ, as Jesus commanded, in order to have life in yourself and in order to live forever?

In Jn 20:28, John refers to Jesus in Greek as “Ho kyrios moy kai ho theos moy”. This translates literally as “the Lord of me and THE God of me”. Why does Jesus, in Jn 20:29, affirm Thomas for having come to this realization? If Jesus really wasn’t the Lord and THE God of Thomas, why didn’t Jesus correct him for making either a false assumption or a blasphemous statement?

Since the Watch Tower Society currently rejects most of the teachings of its founder, Charles Taze Russell (who was president of the organization from 1879-1916), and since they also reject “judge” Joseph Franklin Rutherford, who succeeded Russell as president from 1916-1942, how can you be sure that in 25 more years, the WTS won’t reject the current president, Milton Henschel (1992-present), as they did Russell and Rutherford? What kind of confidence can you have in an organization that rejected its founder and first two presidents for the first 63 years of its existence - over 50% of the time they have existed?!

If the name Jehovah is so important, then why is it never used in the entire Greek New Testament? If men edited out the proper name of God, “YHWH”, when they copied the New Testament, as only the Watch Tower Society claims, thereby altering God’s word, then how can we have confidence in ANY of the New Testament? Should we discard the New Testament or the Watch Tower Society as unreliable?

In Lk 24:36-39 and in Jn 20:26-27, Jesus showed his disciples the wounds in his body as proof of his resurrection. If Jesus’ body had been destroyed by God after he died, how could Jesus show the disciples his body which had the wounds in his hands, feet, and side and claim that he is not just a spirit, “because a spirit does not have flesh and bones just as you behold that I have” (Lk 24:39)?

For Mormons:
The Book of Mormon claims that the Lost Tribes of Israel sailed the Indian and Pacific oceans guided by a compass that was not invented until 18 centuries later.

The Book of Mormon claims that the Lost Tribes of Israel were greeted when they landed by horse-drawn chariots when the horse had been extinct in the western hemisphere for 100,000 years and the wheel was unknown in the western hemisphere until the Spanish conquerors came in the 1500’s.

The Book of Mormon mentions finding iron in the western hemisphere when Native Americans were a stone age society with only bows and arrows for weapons and only a small amount of copper that was used in jewelry.

People indigenous to Siberia have strong genetic links to native peoples in the Americas, supporting the theory that humans first entered the Americas over a land bridge across the Bering Strait. How can you defend the Book of Mormon’s claim that the Native Americans are descendents of the Lost Tribes of Israel?

Scientists have demonstrated that honey bees were first brought to the New World by Spanish explorers in the fifteenth century, but the Book of Mormon, in Ether 2:3, claims they were introduced around 2000 B.C. Explain this discrepancy.

If your church/fellowhip/whatever claims “apostolic succession”, can it trace its roots all the way back to Christ (Mt 16:18)? Christ promises in Matthew 16:18: “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.” How could it be that Christ, who should have known better, would promise that his Church wouldn’t be overcome if he knew full well a great apostasy would make short shrift of it in a matter of decades? Was Christ lying? Was he mistaken? Did he miscalculate things?

Can you produce any historical proof to support your claim that in the early centuries the Church was Mormon?

After the cataclysmic last battle fought between the Nephites and Lamanites, there was no one left to clean up the mess. Hundreds of thousands of men and beasts allegedly perished in that battle, and the ground was strewn with weapons and armor. Where are the artifacts from this battle?

Eternal Marriage, or sealing, conflicts with Matt. 22:23-30 "The same day Sad’ducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him a question, saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, having no children, his brother must marry the widow, and raise up children for his brother.’ Now there were seven brothers among us; the first married, and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother. So too the second and third, down to the seventh. After them all, the woman died. In the resurrection, therefore, to which of the seven will she be wife? For they all had her.” But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.”

Show me where the New Testament requires a 10% tithe or the doctrine of eternal marriage, with the associated temple ritual.

That is REALLY impressive and obviously required a lot of work. Thank you!

Dear bettyg51

Just to help you in remembering one of the fundamental laws of Apologetics, to be exact in your quotations… Milton G. Henschel -member of the Governing Body of Jehovah´s witnesses- died on the 22th of march 2003. He was never considered the president of the religious organization of the Witnesses. Since before Knorr´s death, the direction of their world congregation was passed to what they call since then a Governing Body.

I greet them with a big smile and I say, “HELLO! I am a member of the Church that Jesus HIMSELF founded. I am saved, I am being saved and I hope to be saved. I believe in the Holy Trinity and I believe that unless one eats His Flesh and drinks His Blood they will NOT enjoy Eternal Life. If you have any other questions about Truth, go ahead and ask!”.

Then I wait.

And usually, they run away.

One young Mormon man stood and asked me questions.

He contacted our DRE about a week later.

He is going to be coming Home to Truth next Easter, God Willing. Unfortunately, he had to move out because his mother and father disowned him.

The JW(s) no longer come to my house because of that particular greeting I shared - with them, I added, “Of course, I am a Christian. I mean, it’s not like I believe Jesus was St Michael the Archangel or something ridiculously heretical like THAT!”.

I also handed them a Pillar of Fire Pillar of Truth pamphlet…which you can get from this site.

Go get 'em…but remember…with LOVE.
That’s the way to do it!!!

:clapping: :clapping: :extrahappy: :extrahappy:

ask me, “If you died tonight would you be sure you were going to heaven?” and I replied, “Of course. Aren’t you?”
but we catholics (most of us) are going to Heaven by way of Purgatory… (otherwise known as: The-Next- Four-Years… :hypno: :ouch:
When Mormons come I cross-examine them on the idea that heaven consists of a man with a harem who was given his own planet and populates it with his “children” who then worship him. I point out to them that eternal pregnancy is not a woman’s idea of heaven, but spending eternity knocking up women was certainly the fever dream of a high school boy. Generally they go away pretty quickly. (I used to be a Mormon; I did not hear about this absurd doctrine until I had joined their church.)
actually, while i don’t exactly think that eternal pregnancy is “Heaven”… it coms kinda close… 😃

Oddly enough, the only people at my office who have offered me tangible consolation have been JWs. One girl even brought me a couple of things to read. Catholic Family Services has a 3 month waiting list for grief counseling and suggested I call the State Agency (which I had already done, to be told that I dont fit any of their categories and private counseling is probably my only option) or $140.00 per hour private counseling! And my priest has not even asked how I am doing, since I told him 2 weeks ago that I had been out of town because Daddy had died.

The JWs may believe some pretty outrageous things but at least they are out there caring for the folks. That has to count for something.
Very Very sorry about your Dad’s death. I know how you feel. Your Priest sounds overworked; Pray for him. Some ideas:
Post a Prayer request on our Prayer Intentions site.

Join, or start a Legion of Mary Praesidium in your Parish, with your Pastor’s approval. The Legion is a very charismatic Door to Door Worldwide Catholic Evangilizing organization of Several Million. The Vatican and Bishops recognize the Legion of Mary as the principal Outreach Of the Church to others, on behalf of Your Pastor. And one Learns How to Present Our Faith, to 'convert the other converters, out of their misunderstandings. www.legionofmary.org/lom.html - 11k The Legion of Mary is the world’s Largest, and Very effective door-to-door apostolic/evangelizing organization in the world. I never got involved with any Church activity until the Legion of Mary. Now am in 7 Ministries.
Does your Parish have a Bereavement Group? We are major help at funerals, and consoling. Memorial Masses are offered, Especially Annually for all who Lost a loved one during the year.
Does your Parish have a Prayer Tree, A Prayer group for those in Need of Prayers, Like the sick, the bereaved? Of not, why not get one started?
God Bless your Dad, and You. Our Lord loves each of you.

I’ve heard the bit a million times about when a JW, Mormon, or anyone else knocks on your door, to just answer the door naked with a beer in your hand and they won’t come back. I’m sure that might work but I just don’t have it in me. Additionally, it’s not usually the exact same people over and over again so while one JW might go away mortified it won’t stop the next one from knocking. I live in the deep south so we also get non-denominational-just-started-a-new-Bible-based-church Christians.

There’s something about our neighborhood apparently. Almost every day that I’m home someone knocks on the door. If I’m out then I come home to printed material. Every once and a while I’ll answer the door, step outside while the dogs go ballistic, and politely listen waiting for my chance to say “Thank you so much for your concern, but I’m Catholic, and I am happy with all the answers that my faith provides”. Usually that ends the conversation, but occasionally they fire out a few scripture quotes and tell me that now they are even more concerned for my soul. At that point I smile politely and say “I’m closing the door now. Take care.”

I looked online today for no soliciting signs and most of the ones I found that specified religious visits seemed rude. I don’t feel that I can be ugly before they even knock. I was wondering if anyone had a polite sign idea? Also, I was thinking of keeping some printed material for the Church and maybe the cheap plastic rosaries, and pass those to whomever knocks? Anybody else do that?

Thanks!
Instead of signs keeping evangelizers away, a couple of ideas:
Join or Start a Legion of Mary Preasidium in Your Parish, with your Pastor’s apptroval…****www.legionofmary.org/lom.html** ****The Pillar of Fire ** is One outstanding pamphlet that states all the key elements of The Church, Salvation.]- 11k

I’m afraid I get very annoyed with JWs. They used to come regularly to my area - you could always tell the groups. Let’s face it - they must keep some sort of tally on addresses. I’ve told them time and again, that I’m Catholic - thanks, but no thanks - in so many words. For awhile they didn’t get the message - then it seemed they did (or the bell didn’t work) Recently, they came again…Maybe, they should get an A for effort but it is annoying. I’m simply not interested. I have my Catholic Faith. I feel really badly for a friend whose Catholic son married/converted (don’t know which came first) into JW - now, if the grandchildren come to visit, my friend is not allowed to give them Christmas gifts.
Why shun, block, hide from other faith evangelizers? We are The Church, And we have the largest Door-to-Door apostolic/evangelizing organization in the world, recognized by all Popes and many Bishops as The Outreach of The Church, Legion of Mary - 11k

We are supposed to spread the Faith, ideally, as the Apostles of the Church, Parish, instead of minimal Sunday Mass spectators. The Legion is such a Joy to work. Knights of Columbus Grand Knights have switched to Legion of Mary leadership, working up through the ranks. I’m in Both, and 5 other ministries, as result of Finally joining my First Church organization January last year: The Legion of Mary! A PGK and another Legion of Mary visited me as a New Parishioner. Love it!. The Door to door Contacts we have! We found 2 Stage 4 Cancer Veterans This June, Away from the Church decades, now Back fervently, greatfully. Our Busy Pastor Immediatelly went to them, Blessing of the Sick, Decades long Confession, And the Eucharist! They are Reborn, ideally.
Door to Door is how the Needing are found, and other faiths are answered ideally by Us, to The Lord’s Truth, Church. 👍

What a fantastic and thought provoking thread! I have enjoyed reading it.

I too side with those who say we should engage our separated brethren. It is not an option but our DUTY as baptized Catholic Christians to evangelize and spread the Faith. There are many ways to do evangelize but it must be done. We are an evangelistic church. To evangelize is to be Catholic.

One thing we should all do is to study and know our faith. All it takes is a kind word, a smile, taking the time to talk with someone in kindness and charity. That is all it takes to sow the seeds of Truth. Can you imagine the rejoicing in Heaven if we lead just ONE person into the fold? What is the eternal salvation of a soul worth to you? Is it worth an awkward conversation or stepping outside your comfort zone for a few moments?

Exactly! We should Live our Faith. Learn our Faith, Here, and EWTN. It is our Responsibility to Live our Faith and Respectfully evangelize, low key. Answer the many misunderstandings about Our Ideal Church.

Legion of Mary is the door to door Outreach of a Parish, of the Church; Usually door to every door 2 hours a week. www.legionofmary.org/lom.html 3 million Legionaires in most all countries. All Popes since its Founding in 1932 have recognized the Legion as The Principal Outreach of the Church, and people we encounter, in a low key, respectful manner, non-argumentativellly

I do several things when JWs, LDS, or others knock.

If they greet me in Spanish, I ask them if they can also read Spanish, and point to a bi-lilngual sign that says “In this home we arr Catholics, and do not wish to take up the time of people of other religions or sects. Thank you.”

If they are JWs, they frequently will start with a statement that Catholics don’t believe in, or are not allowed to read, the Bible. I then hand them my well-used Spanish-English Bible with Deutercanonicals and ask, “Like this one?”

If I see Mormon “elders” in the neghborhood, easily recognizable by the white shirts and ties, I quickly put on my full Boy Scout leader uniform, and greet them Bible in hand. Since the LDS use or, some say, misuse Scouting as part of their progrram, virtually all their young men are or have been Scouts. My uniform distracts them and I don’t have to ask the questions they are not supposed to answer on their door-to-door visits.

Having a few Knights of Colulmbus informational pamphlets, similar to the CA publications, is also a useful “counterattack”.

You are definitely embodying the Boy Scout motto “Be Prepared”. 🙂 👍

This has been a really great and informative thread. Since I converted to the church I have yet to get a single “door-to-door” person. I just keep reading the Bible and these threads and hoping one day I’ll get to discuss religions with people outside the church. Our Parish Priest is constantly challenging us to to replace ourselves in church. That is, to bring in one new person at least every year. Imagine how the church would grow exponentially if every year a Catholic replaced themselves!

When they knock on my door I tell them your just in time to watch the Mass on the internet with me. That was the last time I saw them. In fact they have me on the do not knock list.

First ,its a grand thing to see someone out there who believes in his/her faith enough to go door to door etc and spread the good word.I have answered the door to JW and found them to be just fine people…I agree with them that the UN is evil as is the coming one world government…when I disagree I do it with a polite gesture and ask their forgiveness if I offended them…then I pray with them on the front stoop and ask that we God lovers should unite against the evil doers and agree on essential points…I always accept their give a ways and we part friends…no big deal…America and thus the world is going down the tubes because so few have the genuine belief that these fine folks have…Americas RCC church has become a wing of the demoncrat party…how else can one explain so many cowardly bishops being silent on the likes of the Kennedy,Biden Juliani, etc clan that lampoon the church and get away with it…

Welcome to The Church, and Catholic Answers forumn! 👋 :tiphat: And thank you for becoming a Prayer Warrior! You see the great Needs of people who ask prayers there, and the Worldwide beautiful Prayer responses, Nigeria, Lebanon, Hawaii, South Africa, Australia included.

We have Daily Mass in The Church, most parishes, in which we have Bible readings daily, in 3 year cucle for full Bible. The Mass and Eucharist has been the centerpiece of the Church since Our Lord’s Last Supper. The Mass and Consecration is what he asked to been done In His Remembranc. It is such A Rich mass, literally from the earlesty centuries, like the “Sign of Peace” started by the Apostles themselvesd.

Know the Catholic Church is the Fastest growing Church in the USA? only 2 other denominations are, all others declining slightly.

Heard about the awesome Legion of Mary? Does your Parish have one? 3 Million of us go door to door all over the world, most countries, and is the way Many find Our Lord, God. We bring over a dozebn people each to the Church, and to blessing of Marriage for families, and first confession in Decades. www.legionofmary.org

Much more rewarding to “Knock on everyones door” with the Very Catholic, very worldwide, door to Door, the 3 Million, most countries Legion of Mary www.legionofmary.org Is One reason why the Catholic Church is the Fastest Growing Church, one of only 3 that is, in the USA (National Council of Churches annual February Sect by Sect Church report! )👍 Why sit around and Not Knock on everyones door with the Ideal/Idealistic Catholic Church message of Our Lord?

PS: Bishops are Anything but cowardly! They don’t bash this group, that person. Where did the Current ‘pro-life’ non-veteran No Defense of USA, False wars, TotaL economic Imnplosion of the USA and world financial systems get us? Not even life in our Economy, or USA Bill Paying ability… Lets be honest and realistic.

Most evangelists, for reasons I don’t fully understand, avoid me on sight. The ones who make it to my front door are simply told, “No thanks”, and leave. It’s quite easy.
Me too - but I know why they FREAK OUT & RUN (literally one guy fell off my porch step) when I answer the door:

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Even if I wanted to talk they won’t. Those tattoos of mine are kryptonite for JW’s and Mormons. 😃

Wow! I LOVE your inks! The detail is WONDEFUL even from just the pics and seeing as I’m reading about scapulars right now, I’m starting to delve deeply into the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts. I bet those can also be a great general evangelization tool, as well, when you’re going about your daily life. I know the Hebrew “Jesus the Messiah” scroll on my foot gets alot of questions.

God Bless!
