I know the Church does, but I still don’t agree with it.
So long as a Catholic assents to Church teaching and is not promoting other’s use or dissenting attitudes, its okay to not agree.

Ok. Please look into this. Condoms are a contraceptive that remove the procreative aspect of the marital embrace.

Distribution of condoms outside of marriage just condones premarital relation.

Use of condoms inside of marriage turns the sexual act into one of selfishness rather than self-giving (male is not giving himself completely, the female does not want to receive him completely).

Now I am not sure with what part you agree or not, but I can tell you that the Church is the Truth and if you seek it you will find it.

I take what they say re: movies with a grain of salt. There’s many movies on that list rated as offensive that I don’t see how they came up w/ that. It seems several posters feel the same way.
Please don’t count me as one of the “several posters” since I made special pains to make sure that I was just giving some general information and not specific to any movie that’s been discussed in this thread. If your inclusion of me is based on my comment about Team America – that was only a statement of my ignorance about it as I have not seen that movie and now that I know more about it, probably never will – mostly because it does not sound too entertaining or uplifting.

One can’t assent and not agree. Assent means intellectual agreement – that’s what the word “assent” means. If you assent to a certain proposition, it means that you believe that proposition to be true. It is however possible to assent to a proposition while not agreeing with certain arguments in favor of it. For example, one could, I suppose, assent – that is agree, believe to be true – that contraception is wrong while at the same time believing that all the arguments that it is wrong have thus far fallen short.

I don’t understand how this thread got into a discussion of condoms. I guess I’ll have to read through it all to satisfy my curiousity 😃

I am not intending to express agreement with any side of the debate on condoms since 1) I have not read enough of the thread to see what exactly the debate is about – it seems its about condoms for premarital sex? 2) I am not a moral theologian and so I don’t really know what the authoritative teaching of theologians and of the ecclesial magisterium is on this matter… people seem to have different opinions. I’m not going to use any condoms any time soon, so I don’t think I am duty bound to investigate it further 😛

This post has gotten past Stevens trouble and struggle, But I read that he did bite the bullet and do what was right for him…Remove all occasion of sin. It is tough to do. Been there done that.

Steven, I am so proud of you and thank Our Lord for giving you the power to have a snapping party! LIke I told my little one last night fighting “the angry bugs”, Satan can only mess with youwhe you are too far from Jesus. Stay Close to Jesus and Satan will fear you! Stay Very Close!

Let me put it this way. Even if a movie does not affect us and cause us to sin…the AVERAGE person will spend over 7 years of their life watching tv and movies. Wow. Can you imagine standing before God and thinking…I spent 7 years of my life in front of the tv watching and hearing things that are immoral, nasty, dirty…and even if none of these things…I WASTED my time…time I can never get back. Even if you only spend ONE YEAR of your life watching television…that is ONE YEAR you could have been talking to people about your faith…reading books…growing in the Grace of our Lord.

Throw away the DVD’s. And then toss the TV after them.

If you want to look at things that way then you might as well say that we waste 2 years of our lives getting ready to go out every day, or we spend maybe 2-3 years of our lives folding laundry (not sure if those are right but you get my point). If you analize anything that closely, then a lot of things we do will seem like waisted time when we could be using that time to pray or spend time with God. We don’t have to pray every second of every day, some people live their lives differetly than others, and some people do watch more tv/movies than others, it doesn’t mean that they are wasting their lives, or are any farther away from God.

I enjoy tv and movies and my tv is not going anywhere.

Only problem is that laundry and dishes are something we HAVE to do in order to be clean and survive…unfortunatley…rofl…I would glady do away with both!

I would never say that if you watch alot of tv or movies that you are wasting you life or farther away from God then someone who does not do these things. What I would say is this. You will waste some years of your life and tv and movies can impede you from coming closer to God. We are to daily strive to become holy and become like Christ. Am I saying never watch a movie? No. I still watch movies every now and then. Am I saying never watch TV? I would have to say it depends on what you are watching because so much of tv today is simply put, no good.

Beleive me, I like watching a good movie and I think if movies are in moderation, or even tv, this is ok and your choice. But, not the best choice. Doing away with daily or even weekly tv and movie watching will do you a world of good. Finish reading that book about the faith, grow ever deeper in your relationship to Christ, something, anything, is better then the tv. Or, as my priest says, “Oh, Im sorry (with a deep bow) the holy television!”

If watching a show or movie does not bring honor to our Lord, and actually the majority of them bring dishonor, should we do it?

Don’t throw it out. You can still use it…just use it less.🙂

Oh, and about you snapping all the dvd’s!! Wow. I would have been crying lol…I dont watch alot of movies but I HATE wasting money! My husband did that with alot of music cd’s when he first became a christian.Several hundred dollars worth…threw them away!
