What to do with this "icon"

I place this in the Trad Cath forum because the impeccable Fr. Z recently posted about what to do with occult objects. I own an “icon” of st Ignatius of Loyola from a company called “Bridge Builders” (already sounds alarming). It was made by Robert Lentz. What should I do with it? I already put holy water on it…

I’m not sure why you are worried. Robort Lentz is a Franciscan friar.

Maybe if you could be more specific as to why you believe this to be “occult”, it might help.

I don’t think its occult, but Lentz has been very controversial in the Eastern Catholic realms. He made an “icon” of Harvey Milk.

But you don’t have the icon of Harvey Milk, you have one of Ignatius of Loyola.

Why do you have it? Was it a gift? Do you not want it?
Give it to someone who has a devotion to St. Ignatius, or mail it to the local Jesuit institution.

Heck, you can send it to me! Ignatius is my patron.

It can be very difficult to find icons of western saints from reliable sources. I would have the icon blessed and not worry about it, but I would not support the company or iconographer in the future.

The picture above is the first iconostasis written by Robert Lenz in the 1960s/early 70s. He is a highly talented artist. It is unfortunate that his work has strayed from tradition to such a disturbing extent.

I’d not buy any more Bridge Building Icons in the future. Only because they have icons of Gandhi, MLK, SS Sergius and Bacchus; King David and Jonathan (depicted as married homosexual lovers in them), Harvey Milk and others and imply that their teachings, dogmatic or moral are equal to those of the Church.

As to the Icon you already have. It is just a photo reproduction of a painting he made of a real Saint of the Church. Have it blessed by your parish priest, and focus on the life of St. Ingatius, and not on Mr. Lentz or his theology.

You find the term “bridge builders” alarming? Last I checked, one of the formal titles of the Pope is Pontifex Maximus…Supreme Bridge Builder. Frequently shortened to “Pontiff.”
