I’m in my mid twenties. I graduated with a B.A. in English and then proceeded to get an M.A. in Theology. I had a general plan going into the Theology program, planning on teaching afterwards, and possibly going on for a PhD and then teaching at the college level. I was hired for a teaching job at a Catholic high school. I taught there a year and thought about using the teaching job as a stepping stone towards eventually teaching college. However, the teaching job did not work out for me.

I returned home to live and have been here for about a year. I now work at a bank. I’m wondering if this line of work is for me. It’s not in my degree field. Being back home, where I lived most of my life, people often ask me, so what do you plan on doing? Plan on staying with the banking business? I simply answer, for now it’s all right. I end up feeling uncomfortable answering the inevitable questions and don’t like these conversations (especially with long-time friends of my parents and the parents of friends with whom I grew up).

I also feel rather off track. I don’t know what else to do. I have some health problems as well which complicate the matter.

Any advice?

First of all you should feel no discomfort with the questions… rather they should be uncomfortable with rather rude behavior. Frankly - it being none of their business.

Don’t know what part of the country you are in but a week with the Passionist Nuns at Whitesville, Kentucky would do wonders to get you on track. Mother and the sisters provide an environment that is not less than wonderful for clearing the mind and getting priorities straight. Their life of constant prayer gives them a great insight and they seem always able to help people settle the soul.

Give it a try - I think you"ll find the expirience no less than wonderful.

Pax tecum…

Thanks for the advice… but do you think a guy can stay with the Passionist Nuns for a week?
