Brothers and sisters,

I am a devout Catholic, and I am in someway scared with some dreams I’ve been having. Usually with death and the devil. It may seem stupid or ridiculous, but one of these dreams, I believe two nights ago, was even more strange.

I escaped a car accident, and then, suddenly, I saw the devil looking at me. I suddenly woke up, and there was an intense (and unusual) red light coming from the outside, due to the street illumination (which is usually orange). That scared me a lot. I immediatly started praying to Virgin Mary and I eventually felt asleep again.

What should I think of these events? Should I dismiss them? Can the devil do something against me? Or is it just a fantasy? What to do?

I would say that its most likely your imagination, sometimes when im trying to fall asleep, it almost seems like the darkness manifests it self as a moving figure. This is just an illusion just like the red light youre seeing, maybe it reflected off of your window changing color somehow. In any case if youre afraid just pray, the rosary is always good if your having trouble sleeping. i dont think this is anything to worry about, we all have wierd nightmares sometimes.

God Bless

Sudden fear is explained in the bible…
I believe it says not to be afraid he will protect you. I to have some dreams that wake me up in fear I do what you did and I realize sometimes they are usualy propts to rely more fully on my faith.

Such dreams can do nothing harmful to devout Catholic but makes him even more devoutful. 🙂

If you have a sympathetic priest, just explain this to him briefly and ask him for a blessing and any advice.

Also, I would say the prayer of St Michael the Archangel before bed.

Blessed articles are also a good idea (obviously don’t be superstitious though); you could keep a rosary at your bedside table, etc., if you don’t already.

it is much more likely that a dream like this is an unconscious response to a sensory stimulus, like that bright light, than actually anything satanic happening.

Not to discount any spiritual possibilities but…are you on any medications? A number of them can cause vivid or disturbing dreams, including some of the sleeping meds that are currently popular.

Just another possibility.

No, I’m not under any medication. And this had never happened to be before, that’s why I got scared.

This is nothing to worry about and doesn’t seem supernatural in nature. Nor does it appear to be a mental health problem, the fact that you are assessing it tells me you appear to be psychologically sound.

I think you have deepened in your faith recently and as a result your mind during your sleep is processing all of your waking thoughts and feelings, your waking response was in that half sleep that feels like being fully awake but infact is part of the sleep pattern.

In any event, if this happens again just say a little prayer to Jesus and don’t worry about anything.

In my Living Prayer of life.
