My youth minister told me a little bit about what to expect, but I’m still a little unclear about what will happen and what it all means exactly. If anyone could give me some info about the Rite of Welcome, it would be appreciated.

Also, if this is the wrong board to post this in, sorry 😛

I have never heard of a rite of welcome! I’d be interested to learn more on this as well 🙂

The Rite of Welcoming the Candidates is similar to the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens. Many of the sames rites can be used for both Catechumens and Candidates but for Candidates most rites are optional since Candidates are already baptized Christians…

The Rite of Welcoming will likely consist of a greeting/introduction of the Candidates and sponsors. It might also include a signing of the Candidates and a presentation of the Bible.

Mine included an introduction by my sponsor , then the signing of the cross on my ears, head, eyes, mouth, shoulders, hands and feet. We were asked what we ask of the church and responded along the lines of “deepening our faith and live for Christ”

We were presented our Bibles and asked to venerate the Gospels.

It was pretty cool.

Thanks! Youtube is blocked at my school, so I can’t get to that now, but I will as soon as I can. I doubt I’ll be presented with a Bible, I was already given one when RCIA started.

Thats interesting and thanks SMHW. I will have to get up to speed on that…as a born Catholic my world was limited to baptism, confirmation and communion 🙂

Yeah. I forgot the part about asking what the Candidates desired of the Church.

But once again, these rites are not required of Candidates, only Catechumens. So some parishes might omit some of them.
