Someone mentioned the Shrine to the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge MA (near the New York border and directly of a Mass Pike exit) - worth visiting for sure. I also hear that in the same town is the famous Norman Rockwell Museum. Apparently Norman Rockwell lived and painted there…

You don’t think they accents in Boston?? We’re tawkin about Boston, Mass right?

When I’m up there I can’t understand them, and they can’t understand me, but I’d love to here a y’all with a city accent.
They sure do have accents in Boston - just not anything like what you have indicated 🙂

Stockbridge is a beautiful place and we love the Norman Rockwell Museum. Rockwell did, indeed, live and paint in Stockbridge; you can see his studio on the grounds of the Museum. It is also the home of the Red Lion Inn, a very traditional old New England Inn, which smells of a cozy fire and has wonderful food in its restaurants/tavern.

There is a nice little shrine up on the islands in Vermont. (Yes, we have islands…on Lake Champlain, lol.) I think it’s called St. Anne’s.

Or, if you’re going to be up on the other side of the state, St. Johnsbury has a cute little natural history museum. (Real old.)

Fun places to shop include The Vermont Country Store (in Weston or Rockingham), the King Arthur Flour factory (in Norwich), and I love the Northshire Bookstore (in Manchester). Lots of the little towns have little general stores, which can be fun to explore.

Kittery, Maine is the factory outlet capitol of the world. If you are interested in shopping, check it out:

They also have specials posted on the site.

St. Anne’s on Isle La Mot, I believe. Its a really beautiful place in the summer. They have a big outdoor chapel and stations of the cross. It also has a nice little beach area.

When in VT, don’t forget the Ben & Jerry’s factory and Cabot Creamery Shop in Waterbury! With all the free samples at both places, it makes for a cheap lunch. 😃

Dh and I are discussing the possibility of a driving trip through New England for our 25th anniversary next summer.

I’d like to spend a day or 2 in Boston. Where else do you suggest? Historical sights? Religious sights? Interesting places to stay?

We’re pretty open to anything at this point.
In my humble but correct opinion (lol), if you do not go to see the state of Maine, you are letting the best of New England pass you by. The coast of Maine, with it’s amazingly beautiful small towns and the inland parks of the State, make Maine a must see on any visit to New England.

I must be honest, I am a bit biased since my entire family is from the coast of Maine. I was the first one to be born outside of the State (my father was in the military). But I have been back to visit family. I am still blown away whenever I think about that place.

In Carmel,

Br. Allen
