Ten-or-so years ago I would have strongly disagreed with you Wolseley, but now your post reflects nearly perfectly my opinion on Muslims and Islam.
For a long, long time, I tried to believe that Islam was a religion of peace, and a culture of peace, with rational people who could reason and see opposing views and even act calm and sane like other people. I tried hard. Really hard.

Even after 9/11, I tried to tell myself that it was only al-Qaeda that was the culprit, not Islam itself. I tried to believe that it was only a small group.

But, after Tikrit and Fallujah, after the bombings in London and Bali and Madrid, after the murder of Theo van Gogh, the riots in France, and the current crop of riots over (of all things) a stupid cartoon—not to mention the president of Iran, who is a certified nutcase—not any more.

Hundreds of thousands of these people acting like total savages, burning and destroying and acting with a mob mentality barely above animals in a feeding frenzy does not constitute a “small group”.

Not any more. I have little time or patience for radical Islamofascists, or for the so-called “peaceful” religion that spawned them.

Not any more.

Well said. I could not agree with you more.

Same as always—a religion of peace and a culture of war. A veneer of civilization and an inbred barbarism. A claim of tolerance and a proof of hatred and prejudice. And all of it covered by a blatant, overbearing hypocrisy.
It was Muslim Imams that spread the cartoons all over the middle east.they even added worse ones that were never actualy published. It is in Muslim fascist countries like Syria & Iran where things have gotton the worse.Which could not have happened without the approval of the govt.s .

That’s right and also consider that the cartoons originally ran on September 30, 2005. There’s somthing “funky” about them becoming an issue now.

This says everything that needs to be said about the subject.

While we’re at it, here’s a piece from Karl Keating’s letter:

RELIGION OF PEACE?

Religions can be assessed by their official writings and by their public manifestations. Sometimes the two are closely correlated, sometimes not. Mormonism teaches that it’s wrong to swear, and I’ve never heard a foul word from a Mormon. Quakers teach non-violence, and I’ve never heard of a Quaker being arrested for starting a brawl. But what about Islam?

Ever since September 11, leaders of state and Church have been assuring us that “Islam is a religion of peace,” even though certain passages of the Koran are difficult to square with that idea and even though Islam’s historical expansion has been primarily through conquest and not through uncoerced conversion.

Many people think these leaders have been paying insufficient attention to how theoretical Islam gets translated into practical Islam. Take, for example, the reactions to the cartoons published in Denmark. The cartoons certainly were in bad taste, and it’s understandable that Muslims would be ticked off by them, but there’s a difference between being ticked off and advocating retaliatory murder.

At her blog, columnist Michelle Malkin has photographs of Muslim demonstrators in London. The signs they are holding are not the sort you might expect to find in the hands of Hare Krishnas who are upset that their religion has been lampooned:

“Freedom Go to Hell”; “Be Prepared for the Real Holocaust”; “Europe, You Will Pay; Your 9/11 Is on Its Way”; “Behead Those Who Insult Islam”; “Butcher Those Who Mock Islam”; “Exterminate Those Who Slander Islam”; “Annihilate Those Who Insult Islam”; “As Muslims We Unite & Are Prepared to Fight”; “This Is the Beginning of the End for You Disbelievers.”

Not exactly consoling stuff. See:
