What type of Mass is that on EWTN?

What is the type of Mass they have on EWTN? It seems to have Latin in it to or something. I don’t know any Latin so I’m not even sure if that is what that is, why is there Mass a mixture of both? Aren’t they supposed to follow one or the other? It’s hard to follow.

My instinct was to answer “a Holy Mass”. But actually the Mass seen on EWTN is probably closer to what was intended for the NOM to be than the one you may attend.

The Mass that is generally seen on EWTN is, indeed, a mixture of Latin and English. It started as a Mass for the nuns and was, accordingly, somewhat different in nature from the ordinary Mass one would find in a parish church. However, their mixture of Latin and English is consistent with the missal. Liturgically it’s actually pretty good – although there were some issues that they faced with their bishop a year or so ago.

I remember the issue of Ad Orientum. Can you remember others?

If I recall correctly, the other dealt with the policy of not allowing communion in the hand. Since that is a decision made by the communicant it is not permissible to have such a policy. I noticed the last time I saw a Mass on EWTN that most still receive on the tongue, but a couple were receiving in the hand.

There may have been one other, but I’m fuzzy on it since it did not pertain to me, my diocese, or the people I serve either in the West or the East.
