What type of sin is it to fail in your Lenten penance?

What type of sin is it to fail in your Lenten fast? I gave up alcohol this year and a friend of mine came over and we had a few drinks together. Is this considered venial because it does not involve gave matter? Or Mortal because your Lenten sacrifice is an oath/vow to honor God and by knowingly violating it therefore an offense to God?
