What types of things have you received as penance?

Penance is a cry from angels that have received God. As human beings angels are always calling us to be penitent. But angels don’t know have the grace of knowledge of good and evil. God made man and God planted a tree. That tree was a grace. A part of God that made us sin. Our sin is that we can’t understand why God wants us to accept our graces. So in answer I have to say; go to confession and ask your priest:Have I communed with my graces.

I have always felt renewed by confession and penance. It’s a wonderful feeling to be forgiven.
 
Usually my spiritual director gives me a penance of 3 or 4 Lord’s Prayers. I have also had a penance of a single decade of the Rosary and once my penance was to pray 5 decades of the Rosary or what most would commonly call the Rosary. I have also had the penance of doing something nice for a person that I was uncharitable to.

Every single time.

Interesting that I was going to share two of mine, then when I went to type it - it didn’t feel right to share them. I guess they were pretty good penances then, weren’t they?
 
Sit in silence for 5 or 10 minuets in personal prayer.
Say a Hail Mary (I don’t recall being asked to say a Our Father yet, but I am only Baptized 4 months and have only been to confession a handful of times)
Pray a decade of the Rosary for the conversion of sinners.

And my favorite… I told Father that I drink a 32oz of beer everyday after work. He told me that is a lot of beer and asked me to promise him that I would cut it in half for 3 weeks. After I reluctantly agreed, he told me with a big smile “That is your penance” 😛
I’m glad he did. I found out that I am just as satisfied after only drinking a 16oz and now I don’t even drink a beer after work everyday anymore. Baby steps… 😃
