What Version of Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary? Recommendations?

I’m thinking of buying the version of Little Office of the Blessed virgin Mary from Baronius Press.

Some of the reviews on Amazon say that there are a lot of typos in the earlier versions. Anyone know if this is the case with the newer versions?

Can anyone recommend something better in terms of quality - leather, sewn binding, presentation, etc?

I’m interested in the current version used, not any of the older versions. Thanks.

Gregorian Chant? Oh. Nevermind then. 😦

Just kidding. The one from Catholic Book Publishing has been laying around our adoration chapel for a few weeks so Ihave seen it but the question of quality in terms of construction, materials and presentation still stands, and if there is something better.

I tend to be rough on equipment and like zippered covers if available for that reason.

There should be fewer errors in later editions/re-prints: mistakes should have been found and corrected.
 
I have both the Catholic Book Publishing one and the Baronius Press one. The CBP is based on the post-concilliar LOTH and the Baronius Press one is from the pre-concilliar Breviarium Romanum.

As far as the quality of construction, the Baronius one is superior. It is leather binding and heavy cardstock paper. It should last for many years.

As far as content, it depends what you are interested in.

The BP one has Latin/English, hieratic English (thee, thou, cometh, etc…), a one-day cycle (IOW it’s the same every day except for Advent and Christmas time), more offices throughout the day (Matins, Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, Compline), and more psalms for some offices. It also has more introductory and closing rubrics/prayers. it will take you more time to get through all of this than the post concilliar version, but it is a lot more meatier than the modern version. The prayers are more militant and challenging. The Psalms include some that were removed from the LOTH after Vatican II for reasons of violent content (hey, this is spiritual warfare, man!). This version of the Little Office has a rich history spanning many many centuries.

The modern CBP Little Office is easier to pray each day, has more variation, and it follows the newer liturgical year. That’s about all the pluses I can muster up for the new version.
