What version of The Saint Michael Prayer is said at your parish?

Just like with the act of contrition there are many different versions of the Saint Michael Prayer. I go to different parishes and the prayer is different by a few words at each one.

Here’s what it generally is:

Saint Michael the Archangel , defend us in battle. Be our protection (or defense) against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust (or cast) into hell Satan and all (or the other) evil spirits who wander (or prowl) through (or throughout or about) the world for (or seeking) the ruin of souls.

When is this said at your parish and others?
I have never heard it at church.
 
This is the way it is said after mass in my diocese:

Saint Michael the Archangel , defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits that prowl throughout the world, seeking the ruin of souls.

However at times I can hear some people around me saying cast instead of prowl. Maybe they learned it that way earlier in life but it isn’t what’s printed on the cards in the pews.
 
My parish ends mass with this prayer. The other parish in town doesn’t pray to St. Michael at all during mass

Same for us.

@Irishmom2 it’s said at the end of mass here when it is said at all. We don’t always say it. It’s more likely to be said at the end of a daily mass around here.

It is called the Confiteor. What a shame it is never said at your parish. It’s a beautiful prayer.

A number of bishops in USA have asked that parishes in their diocese say it as a group out loud before or after each Mass against the evils of the clergy abuse scandal.
There are also some parishes where the pastor had everybody saying it for years even before the bishop asked.
Also at some traditional parishes, they say the Leonine Prayers after Mass and this is included.

This is the version I say personally.
The congregation usually has half the people belting it out from memory and half reading it off the back of the pew missal. I don’t know what wording the pew missal says as I never use it.

I sometimes say “Wander through the world” instead of “Prowl about the world”. I believe my mom, from whom i originally learned the prayer, used to say “wander”. I had some discussion about prowl vs wander with someone recently, who said they preferred “prowl” as sounding more like what demons do.

I’ve heard other people say “Be our safeguard against” instead of “Be our protection against”.

The diocese I’m in is one where the bishop asked the parishes to say the prayer. It’s almost always said at the end of Mass. The parishes I’ve been to in the diocese all say it. Depending on the priest’s decision for a particular Mass it might be skipped, but that’s the exception.
 
One Priest in our Parish has recently added it into the Mass after the Prayers of the Faithful. I had not heard it used in the Mass until relatively recently.

In my Parish, it often depends on which Priest is saying Mass that determines what form of the Penitential Rite we use.
 
It is supposed to be said in our diocese but not all parishes comply.
 
The only time I have heard it was at weekday masses, with one exception, my aunt’s church which is a little too far away for me.

As to the version, everyone uses the short version. If you check out various sources on the internet, there are or were references to needing permission from a Bishop, as the long version is used [along with other things] in an exorcism. I don’t know how accurate that is.
 
I don’t think anybody prays the long version at church. As you mention, the laity are not supposed to pray it from what I have read.
The OP seems to be talking about the minor wording differences between versions of the short prayer, of which there are quite a few variations.

Yes I meant the short prayer and the minor differences. It’s a good thing we don’t say the long one. Since I like to memorize everything we the the laity say at Mass it would be quite a chore memorizing the long one.

A few in the congregation say the last two sentences slightly differently so there seems to be a slight muddle of words at the end.
 
We say it as one of several after the Rosary, before the Mass starts. This is on weekdays.
