I chose Michael. It was my father’s middle name, and my middle name was his first name, so his full name was contained in mine.

My daughter is being confirmed later this month and has selected Philomena. My elder daughter picked Maryanne, after her mother. My son says he’s going with Anthony, there is great affection for St Anthony in my wife’s family.

It’s interesting to hear how people select their name, it’s the only name you select yourself, and so, says a lot about you.

I chose Tamsin after Thomas the Apostle, More, and Becket. Plus I just love the name. 🙂

Saint Francis of Assisi. I wasn’t super devout when I was confirmed and so I just kind of chose him because I like animals (I also recognized he would be a huge challenge to live up to, but had a fairly vague idea of who he was), but I’ve come to love him more and more the more I’ve learned about him.

David. Being merely the age of 10 at the time, I was just intrigued, I guess, by the David and Goliath story. A mighty giant vs a sling shot. I wouldn’t recommend confirmation at such a young age though and it seems to me the Catholic Church today no longer confirms at such a young age. I’d say that’s probably a good thing as I had no idea what such a commitment would mean until later. I’m not even certain some teens would get the whole picture. But back in the day age 10 was not what age 10 is even today.

Hi Sy Noe,
Our Eastern Catholic brothers and sisters have Confirmation (Chrismation) with Baptism and First Holy Communion. I have Roman Catholic friends who were confirmed as children, or who have children who were recently confirmed when they entered the Church. In these cases, the priest preparing them for entry ensured that they were ready for the sacraments: Baptism, First holy Communion, and Confirmation.
I was confirmed as an adult and chose Saint Therese as my confirmation saint. I relate to the way she finds God in the little things.
May God bless you and all who visit this thread.
Amen.

Anthony. No particular reason. I needed a confirmation name and Anthony had a nice ring to it.

Hi, interesting to know that about the Eastern rites and that children are still confirmed in the Roman rite. I guess because at the last Confirmation Mass I attended a few years back, the candidates all appeared to be in their midteen high school yrs, I wrongly assumed the Roman rite now only confirmed teens and older. Thank you and may God bless you as well.
