I was reading over some Philippine History and Magellan celebrated the First Mass in the Philippines in 1521. In a celebration of the first Mass some years ago, they celebrated the Tridentine Mass at the spot believed to be where the first Mass in the country was celebrated. Then I figured that the Tridentine Mass didn’t become standard until 1570. So I’m curious what sort of Mass was actually celebrated by Magellan and the Spanish fleet (Magellan’s journey was in behalf of Spain, even though he’s Portuguese). It would have been what’s used in Spain in 1521.
