Well, I guess the non response answers it for me. No seperation and my belief is from my protestant teaching (IFB).

Thx…

I think if I understand your question properly, ‘worldly’ is refering to those things which one can become attached to which subverts or can become a deversion to the rightful place that Christ deseveres in our lives?

There are many “worldly” things that we can get attached to - money, power, status, materialism, etc., etc. There are things of this world that we as human need on Earth in order to survive, no matter what stage of life, either mental, emotionally, physically or spiritually we are at. The trick is to not let any of these things overtake your focus on the Lord.

tv…

food…

pubs…

I think most other things fall into roughly the same categories.

In Christ.

Putting anything in this world (even your family) before God is a sin against the first commandment as you have made that thing into an idol. Using the things of this world for the purposes of love of self (within reason), love of neighbour, or love of God, is perfectly okay as long as you put God first. Hope this helps.

(come on people this guy has a good question! Help him out please! I would write more except I don’t know that much about it… maybe someone who has read more than me might have a better answer).

Example might be wearing today’s immodest fashions (girls/women), listening to music lyrics that are offensive, reading books, magazines that are opposed to Church teaching. I’m thinking of things like Cosmopolitan magazine or the DaVinci Code. Our society is full of things that are opposed to living a good Catholic life, and we must be alert all the time.

Peace,
Linda

On the EWTN show last night, Dale Ahlquist stated what I believe to be a quote from Chesterton. However I cannot recall it verbatum. He said something like; We have become dispassionate over things that are important, faith and family, and passionate over things that are unimportant such as, power, money and sports.

I believe these are examples of the wordly things we shoould seperate ourselves. Of course I don’t think that means we can’t watch the superbowl, yet I do think it means we have taken such things waaayy too seriously.

I was at a high school hockey game a couple of weeks back. As I sat there watching and hearing parents getting overly passionate about the game, often taking the Lords name in vain with every exchange of the puck, I couldn’t help but wonder…why?
