Lets say theres a person who lives a bad life, he doesnt follow Gods commandments, doesnt go to church, steals, etc… he just does whatever he wants without a care in the world… Lets also say, that in a few yrs, that this guy wouldve surrendered his life to God, and would live a life of righteousness, but doesnt get to do that because he dies before he could… now, we know that God is all knowing, so would God still give him access into heaven knowing that he was going to change his life, but didnt get to ???

Please dont take my answers as official.

If a person dies it must be Gods will. So if a person dies at a certain time that was their time to die, and their is no possiblility that they would have lived any longer.

To repent one must receive God’s grace. People cannot repent after death, as they are not in ‘time’ where change is possible.

Please correct me if i am wrong

This does not mean that God wanted the person to Go to hell, but he chose it by unrepentance.

[1037](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/1037.htm’)😉 God predestines no one to go to hell;620 for this, a willful turning away from God (a mortal sin) is necessary, and persistence in it until the end. Father, accept this offering
from your whole family.
Grant us your peace in this life,
save us from final damnation,
and count us among those you have chosen.622

There is no second chance after death. If a person is not in a state of grace when they die, they are separated from God eternally.

We cannot know the state of anyone’s soul when they die. We can only hope that they die in a state of grace.

The hypothetical won’t work, because God, being eternal and omniscient, knows what will happen. He did not surrender himself to God because he died. There is no alternate universe. What we do matters.

If the man in question truly repented and desired God, but was prevented through the conditions of his demise to be baptized beforehand, he might experience baptism of desire, as the thief on the cross apparently did.

God knows our hearts; we trust in His mercy and hope even those who evince no belief in God will somehow repent in the end and be saved. That’s the whole point of the prodigal son parable.

John,
There are some important passages of scripture that you need to keep in mind. These passages point out that we all are dealt with by the Holy Spirit to draw us to the Lord, so that no one has an excuse.

Luke 12

Romans 1:17-31

Psalm 94:8

Hebrews 3 & 4

I think there is a contradiction in the question - because what a man would do if he lived long enough, is in God’s hands, & not man’s.

If God does not put us in circumstances in which we actually do what we would do if in those (hypothetical, possible, but not actual) circumstances - then we cannot do that thing: the making actual of that hypothetical, possible, but not actual set of circumstances is also in God’s hands.

I think that you are trying to play off two hypothetical situations against each other - neither is actual. The man’s sinful conduct is actual, & he will be judged on what he has actually done, not on what he could have done in circumstances in which he was not put. AFAICS - which is not very far - your hypothesis is comparable to questions like “What would we do if we had lived during the Reformation ?” 🙂 The fact is, that we didn’t - we live now, in 2007 AD; that, not some other time, is where God has appointed us to be. So we can speculate about what we would have done if we had lived in Reformation England or Counter-Reformation Rome; but it will be speculation, not reality. We who are we are, when & where we are - not anybody else.

Just MO 🙂

Everything is in God’s hands, and He knows all hearts. If one dies with an unrepentive heart, then that one will not be with God. All who desire truth, who desire God will find Him.

Perhaps there are mercies we do not know about, like when infants who has comitted no sin by will, die before baptism, or perhaps one suffers from mental issues where he/she is unable to meditate about God, or understand him, because of depression or brain disorders, still, God could have mercy on them, He will not throw any away.

So again, if we want Him, want to live by His truth, then at one point or another we will find Him.

Consider the opposite. A man who lives a holy life, striving to love God and do His will. The man dies in a state of grace. God sees that he would have turned away from Him if he had lived longer. Does God then send this man to hell?

not according to the various parables about the kingdom of heaven which the Church considers in these Sundays in the last weeks of ordinary time. consider the parable of the man building bigger barns, the wise and foolish virgins, the guests at the wedding banquet, the wise and foolish builders, the parable of the talents, Lazarus and Dives, and so on. Those who did not make good use of their time, energy and resources while they had the chance are judged on what they did or did not do, not on what they might have done.

I don’t mean to criticize you here as you seem to doubt your own beliefs… however I will continue…

You say that when a person dies it is God’s Will? Is it really? What about the devil whom clearly has control over the world? Would God really wish such an impure thing as murder or otherwise? Would he will us to murder someone? God forbid!

To the OP: Salvation has nothing to do with repentance (As Pete hints at)… God already knows every single one of us is a filthy dirty sinner, that knowledge brought forth salvation through Christ and gave us means to be saved through faith… if we do not choose the life of Christianity while we are alive… how will we do so when we are not alive? Can you choose life when you are dead? I doubt it… You have to choose while you are alive and if you never get put onto the correct path you’re doomed to eternal hellfire… I’m sorry to say… even so, in this world there will be people CREATED to live a life of evil and die in hell- those people are only there to test God’s people… of the devil or of God I am not certain- but they are a very real force and are the ravening wolves mentioned throughout the Bible.

In my opinion it is a human reaction that untimely death, even by murder, somehow cuts short what that person “might” have done had he not died when he did. The bitter fact is that some die before what we think is their time. God on the other hand does not have to speculate because he knows, however not in the sense of predestination, every bit of our lives including the tiniest bits. To think that God could look beyond the death and use that in making His judgment is fallacious.

Since it is believed that God’s will is that all be saved, it would seem more likely that knowing an extension of the guys life would lead to his repentance that God would be more inclined to intervene than to allow the guy to expire unshriven.
