yes…

but the whole thing started when Joe got caught with Fanny Alger. He needed to come up with something…polygamy seemed like a good idea.

And, frankly, his death resulted from it. When he tried to convince William Law and his wife into a little foursome, William got angry…one thing led to another and the Expositor was written, the printing press destroyed, Joe arrested, and then killed in a gun battle in jail.
Thanks. Crazy…

Well I suppose if Jesus’s statement about God being spirit and therefore we should worship him in spirit and truth (contrary to mormonism) was false Mormonism might be true.

You are oversimplifying. 😃 There were more things going on than a religious justification of fornication and adultery. But, of course, you already know that.

Yes, there were other things going on. But the William Law situation is what caused the polygamy stories in the expositor, which caused Joe to destroy the press, which caused him to be arrested, which caused him to be in jail, which caused him to die in a gun battle.

So, while other things were going on, what I have stated is accurate.

But, of course, you already know that

I would have thought him being a “prophet of god” that God would have sent down His Angels to smite the evildoers that were trying to kill smith because smith was the only one with the priesthood keys 🤷

lol…read some of the D&C…he threatened that sometimes

I fell away a long time ago and tried getting back into the religion as I felt a strong call to be closer to God. However, now as an adult, I saw and heard many things I disagreed with and couldn’t willingly align myself with a religion that I don’t believe in. This is part of the reason I’ve been looking into Catholicism, as many of the things I have seen and heard seem right and they make sense. (I’m still unsure if I want to completely align myself with any religion at this point, but if I were, it would most likely be Catholic).

I left because I didn’t feel it was right (still on their rosters though) but lately have been looking at the exmormon reddit and participating in their discussions and learning there is a lot more to the church than I previously thought. So, not only did I disagree with a lot of their CURRENT teachings, sites like Mormonthink had me questioning EVERYTHING.

Thankfully, I was never really active to the point where I devoted my whole life to it, but sometimes I wonder how people get so caught up in it.

What would make the LDS true? Admitting that it is false, and then seeking the truth that is found in the Bible

What would make it true? Having consistent teachings throughout it’s entire history, a defined apostasy of the original Church, having the behavior of Joseph Smith and subsequent presidents of the early LDS church be at least marginally honorable, and the temple ceremonies be biblically based rather than masonically derived.

That would be a good place to start, at least.

What would make it true, admitting that JS and BY were anything but prophets and that possibly many of the general authorities in the LDS church know that
