The church you go to has a church pastor, or teaching you do not agree with…

Simple question, but doing some research and will create a follow-up thread after this thread runs its course…

I would talk to him about it in case it is my misunderstanding. If I still disagree, I would ask him to explain the source of the teaching–from Scripture and/or Sacred Tradition.
 
This question depends on a lot of things. I voted Catholic - stay.

As a Catholic, I trust and believe in the church. The liturgy and the sacraments are the same. If there were abuses of these, then I would bring it up with the Bishop ( or at least speak with the priest first and ask what the reasons are for the differences. )

If I had a priest who was extremely political and who politicised the homilies to the point where I could not stand them, then maybe I would change. Don’t know for sure what would put me over the edge as I don’t expect anything I haven’t already heard to come from a Catholic priest…
 
For Catholic do you mean church as in individual parish or Church as in the Catholic Church?

I have already left a parish because of rampant heresy being taught there and no one else cared or saw anything wrong. However, I will always remain Catholic. I’m just looking for a more faithful parish. 🙂
 
for Catholic, it can mean change parishes, or it can mean leave the church…

If the question implies different Catholic Churches…
I would let the pastor clarify if I heard correctly and then present
the problem I have with his view . Example: He states that the
Death Penalty, “soladarity with the poor” etc. have equal weight
when Catholics are voting. He is youngish, articulate, and holds
a prominate position in the diocese. I’m praying for his return to
“orthodoxy” but avoid his Masses when I can. Luckily, he is not
my parish priest .
If it means would I leave the Catholic Church
NO. It is the TRUTH.
 
I voted stay.

Being in a denominational church I assume that headquarters would act if things got excessively wierd. Otherwise I tend to eat my petty quibbles. Oh this is an evangelical denomination so I did not consider the case of the denomination itself getting wierd (although maybe I should have).

If I were non-denom I would not have the safety net of headquarters. Then I could potentially leave if things got real wierd. But normally I would stay.
 
It is not about what we want, it is about what God wants.

He left the church with the authority here on earth, even though i may disagree with some things the church says, I follow them as thy have our gest interest at heart when it comes to what God expects of us.

Catholics don’t have much choice do they? If one doesn’t believe in the authority of Rome, the Immaculate Conception or any other dogma, it is hit the road Jack isn’t it?
 
If “change churches” means switching to a different parish, that would get my vote. I would give the pastor a chance to clarify things, but if he was preaching heresy or persistently committing liturgical abuses and showed no sign of stopping, I would take myself and my offerings to a different parish.

Sure we have choices… live within the Truth or by free will walk away… same as anyone else. The point is, we know the Truth resides in the Catholic Church. There are fundamental truths which all Catholics must believe… if we are outside of these beliefs, we are outside the Church.

Following the Truth is not meant to be easy, quite the opposite in fact… This is where our separated brethren have gone astray. They presume to think that when things get tough, they can bail and start their own softer easier way church… but that church does not have the fullness of the Truth. The Truth is that Jesus established ONE Church, not many, certainly not 30,000. Christ is the Head of that Church the members are the body…Christ is the bridegroom and the Church is his bride. To be a part of the one true Church is to be in communion with Christ’s teachings. To be part of a separated church… is like being the exwife of Christ…

Many times Christ described our relationship to us… in just such a way as I posted above. If you had the best spouse possible why would you separate from HIM? Sure you would still have part of the Truth in your new church, but why give up the whole for a part?
 
catholics have as much choice as any other religion. You can follow your religion or you can leave it. (now im talking anyother religion i mean in a free world). The catholic religion goes by the bible. So in order for it to go by the bible it gives you the same choice God gave us. God will never push himself on you. God will never leave you but you may leave him… Gods message is loud and clear. If you love me keep my word. He wrote us down ten commandments and if we follow them, then that is the road to salvation. And personally speaking as a catholic that is very hard to do. But he knows i fail and i keep trying everyday. So see thats whats hard about being catholic its not having much choice. Its making the right choice. thats the problem if God didnt give us free will then we would be perfect. I guess in a way it sure would have been easier if he made them all for us and didnt give us a mind of our own sometimes. huh. But see making the right and wrong choice is what is called LIVING. hope that helps
 
I did not vote because the option of staying Catholic but changing parishes was not listed.
