I’m so sad! I found a tiny puppy in the street! I heard a dog crying like crazy like if someone was beating the cr*p out of it or like if it had been run over, so I ran out the door mad as heck only to find her running across the street crying because of the rain and the cold (it’s about 30 degrees outside)… And I already have 2 dogs so I can’t keep her http://forums.ovusoft.com/image/image.aspx/s7.gif I’m trying to see whose dog it is, but none of my neighbors know… what an ugly Christmas for her owners http://forums.ovusoft.com/image/image.aspx/s7.gif

I don’t know what to do. I posted ads on craigslist, but I don’t know what else to do. I can’t put ads in the streets since it’s raining and it’s going to rain the entire wk… now my own puppy’s feeling jealous since the one we found has to sleep with us since she’s only abot 2-3 months old and cries when she doesn’t see us… She’s a gorgeous looking puppy! The only bad thing is that she’s a pitbull. But she has blue eyes!!!

What can I do? If I take her to the pound and nobody claims her, they’ll put her down and I won’t let that happen…

I’d call up the local pounds and animal shelters, local vets and vet hospitals, maybe even police stations, and see if anyone’s enquired about your precious little pooch. Those are the places people are most likely to ask if they’re looking for her.

Wait a little while before taking her anywhere, to see if anyone’s looking for her.

Although it may seem cruel to put unwanted dogs down, it’s by far the best and most humane thing to do in the event that they can’t be adopted.

Well sweetie, looking like this puppy just found him a home. Dogs are pack animals, your prior dog will adapt to the new member of the pack, as the pack leader you just have to make sure one is not treated any different then the other.

absolutely about the pack animal thing…let them cuddle together a bit and the jealousy should end. Poor little thing…someone left a gate or a door open and is now just sick about losing their dog. You are a WONDERFUL ‘St Francis’.

I would LOVE to keep her but I have 2 dogs already, 2 turtles and a bird… and where I’m moving to they don’t allow pitbulls…

I don’t know what else to do… we got a call last night around 3:30am but the person wouldn’t tell us any specifics about the puppy, so I’m sure it wasn’t his…

So now I’m looking for someone else to take her. I’d hate to take her to the pound since our local pound has a high killing rate. I already have 2 people interested on her if I don’t find her owners…

Would you do the above if you could find her owners? I wonder if she has a chip…

Yessi, locate the Pitbull rescue society for your area… they’ll either be able to take the pooch in or give you more info on what to do!👍

I don’t have any good advice. We had a cat outside crying about a month ago. We let it in because it was cold out and it was very thin.

I put up a poster. One person called, not her cat, she didn’t want him either.

I think I even posted somewhere on this forum that if no one claimed him he would be off to the humane society 🤷

Well, he is still at my house, took him to the vet with my dog and other cat, they all received their updated shots  I will say, the main reason he is still around is because he came to us fixed and no claws. 👍

My other cat, I took in about 15 years ago, to find her a good home. I still have yet to find her one 🤷

Give it to an annoying relative for Christmas? Make sure your relative has a kind heart and would feel guilty about taking it to the pound.😉

AM radio stations sometimes have local shows where you can “post” free ads.

Also, free or sometimes even pay subscription newspaper ads/magazines will allow you to place free ads for found pets.

Maybe some area vets would put flyers in their office?

Since it is a pit bull, I might even wonder if this poor puppy was lost intentionally. Maybe it is a pit bull mix, with a mother of a different breed, and the owner ditched it intentionally b/c they were worried about how aggressive and large the dog might grow up to be.

what’s so bad about it being a pitbull? I think they are so cute!

I’ve been around several pit bulls. If you don’t beat them everyday then they aren’t too likely to attack you.

I love Pitties. They are one of the most trainable dogs around. They have the misfortune of being popular with the wrong people.

Yessisan, to a google search for “pit bull” rescue (with the quotes). I just did, and there are at least 10 pages of them. Hopefully you can find one in your area.

God bless you,

Yessisan, I was in a similar situation about 3 years ago. A couple of the kids in my school brought 2 of the most adorable puppies into the office, saying they had followed the kids to school. My roommate (who was one of the assistant principal’s at the school at that time) kept them in her office for the day. The whole office staff and a bunch of the teachers asked the students and any visitors who came in if they knew where the puppies had come from. No one knew. One of the teachers took them home that night, brought them back to school the next day and we started asking around again. Still no response.

My roommate and I brought them to our house “just for the night” (LOL!!). Neither dog had a microchip (our vet checked for them) or tags, so I put up posters all over the area, called a bunch of vets and pet stores (a lot of them have bulletin boards), put an ad in the paper (many papers will let you post “found” ads for free), etc. I got one response, but it was the wrong dog.

After about 2 weeks, it was abundantly clear that no one was going to claim these dogs. So we took them back to the vet, got them their shots, had them dewormed, and neutered them both. They have been happy and heathy members of our pack (now 4 dogs and 1 cat) ever since that “just one night”.

My suggestions for you would be to do the things I did to try to find the owner. I would also second the suggestion that you call the local rescue group to get some help.
Even if you cannot keep the dog, my next suggestion would be to make an appointment with your vet for your own pets after you find her a home or give her over to the rescue group. If she has any communicable diseases that your dogs may pick up (worms, kennel cough, etc), you want to get your dogs treated ASAP. If she’s as young as you suspect, she has not had all her shots, and she may still have worms.

At the risk of being flamed here, I would give it to the pound knowing that it would get put down. I know there are some nice pit bulls - must be, because people tell me they have them… but in general I think they are very dangerous dogs. I’ve read too many tragic stories of pits attacking children. There was one in our town who attacked not only a child, but it’s own owner who tried to restrain him (bit the guys finger right off and totally mauled the child) The owners were a very nice family with children … it was totally a random sort of thing where the child knocked on the door to see if his friend could play.

Since you don’t know the history of the dog or it’s parents, I think it’s a risky dog to keep / give to others.

The problem is that some municipalities have ordinances specifically outlawing ownership of pitbulls or pitbull mixes.
The thing about pitbull aggression, though, is that the blood lines have been so screwed up by people purposely selecting FOR aggression and mental instability that unless you know the line the puppy comes from, you can’t assume it will not be aggressive. With that being the case, it is easier for cities to outlaw the dogs altogether.
It’s a shame, really, because they are indeed beautiful and smart dogs. I just hope that legit breeders can reclaim the breed and rehabilitate its reputation.

Personally I do not think you should keep it. My sister is an animal control officer for the Los Angeles area and has personally encountered many horrible pitbulls. She says they are the number one problem dog for the LA area.

My brother in law had a pit bull and when DH and I had our first DD we would never go over to his house anymore because we didnt trust his dog, and everybody in DH’s family thought we were overreacting and BLAH BLAH BLAH…well guess what happened…Brother in law soon had his first child and his wonderful pitbull snapped and bit his 1 year old…it was the hardest thing I had to do to restrain myself from saying “I told you so”. Oh and BIL wouldn’t neuter his dog because he thought it was cool…

Oh I do love living 3 states away from the in laws now 😃 Sorry for the rant…I have unresolved in law issues.

Your sister naturally sees all the *bad *pits. It’s the nature of her job. Since she doesn’t see the good ones, she doesn’t know the ratio of good to bad. And I’d bet that most of the pits she sees belong to people who shouldn’t own a cockroach.

The dog didn’t bite because it was a Pit. To put it in a nutshell, we love dogs, and they love us, because their social structure is close to ours. One *major *difference is that children are low status in dog packs. When a kid infringes on something the dog thinks is his, the dog will warn the kid. If the dog has learned that growling and snapping is forbidden, he has no way to warn the kid off and goes straight to bite.

I teach people not to punish warning signals, but to deal with the situation instead.

Yeah. A (male) vet I used to work for used to snort, “These guys have their egos all tied up in their dog’s testicles!”

Pits are God’s creatures, too.

God bless us, every one!

Still no owner, so we gave it to a man who called. He was all happy to take her. She was very happy kissing him all over his face… he said if we find the owners, he’ll give her back, but if not, he’s keeping her. Afterall, she’s a pure bred blue nose pit… lovely puppy! I already miss her and I only had her for a day 😦

Oh that’s terrible!! 😦 I have several dogs myself and let me tell you my neighbors are major watch dogs for people whom would drop off animals around here…They will do whatever they can to help strays find homes… 😦 I do hope the puppy’s owner gets to find their puppy!

You are a very kind person for helping that puppy out! God bless…

one of my friends said there are places like “homeward bound” I don’t know if you have that around where you live but they too would probably announce the missing puppy and might help her get home!!
