I work full time and it is becoming more stressful every day. Its like the managers are just pushing to see when we will break. (yes I want to quit, but I have children to support). I have found some reprieve by going to the local adoration chapel on my lunch.

Now today I was there and the top of the hour came, so the person assigned left because their time was up. Then no one came in. So there I was by myself, but needing to leave to get back to work.

I was always taught never to leave the Blessed Sacrament alone, so I didn’t want to leave until someone else came. As time went by I got more worried - were they coming?

Thankfully after 10 or 15 minutes someone did come in. She thanked me for staying until she got there.

What would you have done?

I only ask because this has happened before, only no one came. I ended up leaving, but I did go to the office and tell someone.

I am thinking that I might not go back at lunch anymore… I found peace from my stressful day there - but now its causing me stress

If it is causing stress for you to go to adoration, then I would say don’t go as often or not at all. Can you go right after work for a short period of time?

In the RC church that I attend, they don’t leave the Blessed Sacrament out, because there isn’t anyone to sit there. So, it is locked in the tabernacle.

You know, you can make LESS than an hour. If they have sign ups, sign up for a 30 minute segment. Or a 45 minute segment. Highlight your entry so that it’s apparent to those who come behind you.
The people who monitor the schedules will then realize that they need coverage for the time you can’t commit to.
Be at peace.

Is there some way you could go into the church instead of the adoration chapel? Jesus is still present, but you won’t have to worry about anyone else being there when it is time to leave. I would also bring it to the attention of the pastor; he needs to know if this happening often.

Once a week is what I normally do. I have stopped after work a few times, but I hate to miss my kids. They will come home and eat and then go to work or practices after school. If I don’t hit a certain time frame I miss them until late evening.

I don’t have an alloted time. I just stop in on what ever day I can. Sometimes Tuesday, or maybe Wednesday… could be any day. I didn’t want to commit to a certain day because I have to be at work every day … but I can stop by the chapel at any time. I usually do 20 min or 30 mins so I can get back to my desk in time. Jesus is more flexible than my boss 🙂

I don’t know about the church. I have done that in the past… gone from the chapel to the church to light candles. The chapel doesn’t have the candles

Just make a visit when you can. If you are officially committed via a sign up sheet, I don’t see why there is a problem. True, Christ should not be left alone if exposed for Adoration. If you feel this is happening, alert the parish office.

Jesus is present in the Tabernacle.
Go there.

I’m committed to a weekly hour of Adoration at my parish. When I signed up, I was told that under no circumstances was I to leave without making sure a committed Adorer (i.e. someone listed on the sign-in sheet or a sub) was present. So I think that the person who left you there really wasn’t right to leave simply because their time was up. If there had been an emergency, maybe they could have specifically asked if you could stay while they went to the office to let them know they had to go and the next person was late. That’s probably what I would have done in that situation.

At our parish we try to have two scheduled Adorers in every time slot just in case something were to happen, but that depends on having enough volunteers.

Yes. We live way out in the 'burbs…and don’t have Adoration as often as we would like because there are few people willing to come. 😦

It’s something a Pastor has to think about when scheduling. It’s generally a full parish commitment. Those who are quite successful and thriving have oodles of people desiring to attend.
I’m sure our parish would be a much more thriving one, if we could make that leap. :o

Sounds like you did the right thing by informing the office staff.

This has happened to me many times. We are instructed to close the monstrance before leaving if no one else is present. Problem solved.

I can’t believe they left!

Take your cell phone have the Church office in it and call if you find yourself in this position again. I would also stop the adorer leaving and tell them I’m actually leaving and they will need to stay (it’s their responsibility after all). Don’t quit going, don’t be stressed, just have a plan of action in case it happens.

Praying for your job situation.

look man the thing that i find joy in work is that it is a commandment and that it is required by God. you know when you clean your house on Saturday how much work that is but you know that you feel good doing it and you know it will accomplish much. When you finally have it clean you can gladly say your effort was worth it and you can relax…

if all you did was just relax relax and relax you would get bored easily, life is about balance, i have been off all week due to an injury that i had at work and i much prefer the work, relax,

i was at a cathedral here once in Toronto and a altar boy sung thank you god for giving us time to rest, giving us time to work, and also to have fun, God wants you to have it all

dont let the managers get in your way , remember that your ultimate manager is Jesus Christ, he knows you there while you work you can talk to him, pray to him as you work even, glorify god as you work, many old testaent saints said they shed sweat on their eyebrows to God as they toiled

as tough as work is, its necessary so get used to it and i dont say that to be rude

Good idea, I never thought of getting the phone number of the office then I could call.

Your funny…once we get “used to” our jobs they give us more to do. It has been going on for last 5 years or so. Since that 2008/2009 recession. They let half my team go - which was understandable at the time. Sales are picking up and they even added another production shift (which was more people hired) but they won’t hire any more white collars. They just keep dumping more on us. Some people are just unreasonable (I am not talking 8 hour days - - I am talking 11 hour days with no overtime pay because I am salary. I don’t want pity I just want to be clear. I appreciate my job but that doesn’t mean its perfect)
