What would you like to ask a Catholic?

By not relaying on my own private, fallible interpretation and letting Jesus guide me. No if’s, no but’s.
If I may take that one step further:
By understanding the reasoning of the Magisterium and leaving the rest to faith, and also by trusting in and cooperating with God’s grace (but never presuming upon it).

Second question:

What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen baptized swallow?
If a priest blesses the rain, all swallows are able to be baptized by sprinkling while under that shower.

If a priest blesses a pond, all ducks therein are fair game (fowl, actually) are baptized…by immersion.

Would that make ducks heavier or lighter than wood?

:rotfl:

I can see it now. I’m going to be the next Hans Urs von Balthasar.

Here’s the title of my next book:
Dare We Hope “That All Woodchucks Be Saved”?
With A Short Discourse On Chucking Wood

They’ll have to call Vatican Council III to address the issues I raise! 😛

You’ll get co-authorship, a bronze statue of a woodchuck, and half of everything that I earn - including half of the hate mail I get from Sedevacantists accusing me of being too soft on woodchucks, and contravening the Papal Encyclical of 1066 AD, Lamentabili Woodchuckus. 🙂

No statute: I could never explain it to my Evangelical friends.

Second time tonight on CAF that I laughed out loud and scared the dog.

Maybe I should ask a mod to split the thread and I’ll now apologize to PJM.

But oh, man, I needed that laugh.

Unless said woodchuck were martyred, in which case he received the Baptism of Blood, or he died with the intention to enter into full communion with the Church and received a Baptism of Desire.

As proof of such, we may be able to ask for his intercession, especially in chucking wood.

Three cases of adjudicated miracles are necessary to confirm sainthood, and every time I chuck wood, I get better. There are rumors of feats of super woodchuck strength, diligence, piety, and I read a blog where someone thought he saw a woodchuck levitate but the Vatican denounced it as the woodchuck was most likely balancing on his tail.

Now, are there any diocese with indults where woodchuck may be consumed on Fridays during Lent?

Tell them you’re doing research on procyonid humanoids (as opposed to reptilian humanoids.) 😃

Likewise, but I don’t have a dog. 😉

Always welcome. Quoth Willy Wonka: “A little fooling now and then, is relished by the wisest men.” 😃

Sorry, friend. I was just kidding around. 😉

That said, I really liked your reply about following Christ’s guidance and not relying on one’s own private interpretation. I can relate to that. 👍

Dear friends in Christ;

I’ll assume you on the CAF because your curious about what we Catholics REALLY believe and WHY?

Here’s your chance to find out.

God Bless you and thanks for taking time to ask,
Patrick
I have a question:

How can the Catholic Church now be in union with Coptic Catholics while they continue to teach/believe that Jesus Christ has only 1 Nature after Catholics had been condemning that idea as heresy for centuries upon centuries?

I’ve also learned on here that Catholics are now in union with those who celebrate the Liturgy of condemned heretic Nestorius.

If there is no unity in faith/theology, how can there be unity?

Confused.

How do you let Jesus guide you? And how do you know its Jesus and not your own private judgement?

I have asked 2 questions.

As far as I can tell, neither has been answered…

How do you let Jesus guide you? And how do you know its Jesus and not your own private judgement?
Because I know His voice.

Because my own private judgement drove me mad and wanted to go my own way for my own motives. In fighting Jesus - I lost myself - He found me. I have denied Him and He has been merciful to me, I don’t want to fight Him anymore. So I surrendered myself and He brought me Home.

It’s a lot more complicated and long than that, but this will do for now. Definitely something to go over coffee.

On a more individual and private matter - Like you, I am well traveled through different faiths and other things not necessarily called faiths. I’ve looked for Him in all the wrong places. I’ve fought Catholicism for many years, in the end He brought me back - Here is the only place where I don’t have to cover the sun with the palm of my hand and pretend it’s not there, iow - I don’t have to ignore anything.

But these are just private personal grumblings, and while they play a part - they are not the reason.

I know His voice.

As I understand it, there are Catholic Copts who are in union with the Apostolic See and teach the orthodox catholic faith in communion with the Chair of Peter. Then there are Copts who remain separated and, as I understand it, consider themselves Orthodox or their own form of ancient Coptic Christianity. That is my very basic understanding, so there would be no issue as you posed, but there are likely many here who actually know the details.

Ok a serious question why are you Catholic and not some other religion
Like others here, it was a process of educating myself more on the ancient Christian Church. Oddly, I converted whilst participating in a four year theology program with other lay folk in my former protestant denomination (TEC). It was a four year program put together by an Episcopal seminary that spent one year each on the Hebrew Scriptures, the New Testament, Church history and theology/philosophy. Ironically, it led me to start reading outside of its recommended books and I found myself knowing I was in a denomination that had a break with Apostolic Succession, had too much lay (name removed by moderator)ut on matters of faith and morals, had bishops that were not concerned with uniformity of liturgy and doctrine guiding the faithful and I saw all of this in the Catholic and Orthodox Churches. Since I was clearly a product of a community that was heterodox and schismatic from its prior Patriarch (the Roman See), I felt compelled to return to the Mother Church in Rome. This process took a few years, but I knew I needed to stop protesting (I had been a bit smug and anti-catholic, and largely ignorant of the Orthodox–like so many like I was sadly are) and submit in obedience to the holy catholic and orthodox Church under the Patriarch of the West in Rome. It is the most marvelous thing.

I think, if you want to get somewhere with this question, it would be muc better to start a thread for it.

In any case, could you provide a specific quote (from a Coptic Catholic patriarch or someone else in authority)?

GREAT Q!

Like many others I was born into the church and raised in the Faith.

Also like many others I dropped out while in the AF.

But God never abandoned me; He led me back [but not without my kicking and fighting it’😊

The Holy Spirit took advantage of my pragmatic nature and LEd me to realiize

. 1. That there can be only One true God
  1. One God; good and perfect [unerring] could logically have ONLY one Faith [truth HAS to be singular, per defined issue]😃
  2. And Founded Only One Church following His Own OT tradition of only One Chosen people.
Then with a bit [a lot actually] of biblical research I was able to prove and affirm all of this.

The Sacraments being VALID and LICIT only in the CC was a clincher for me:)

Thanks for asking,
Patrick

Well, that depends. Is it a European or an African swallow? Remember that African swallows are not migratory.
