Hey all. I noticed the board message saying they’re keeping posts edifying. I think that’s great.

They also mentioned they could seek suggestions for what CA could do in the future. So what do you think? What would you like to see in the future here on Catholic Answers? Your chance give some constructive feedback.

To be honest, I almost exclusively used the forum.

I’d love to see some improved podcasts and blogs. Maybe some that deal with the issues people posted about here. So many people discuss theology and sacraments in videos, but there’s less places for people to get honest answers to day-to-day catholic life inquiries, like schooling options for kids or how to approach relationship issues. I know there are probably some, but if they want to look for a new venture, that’d be my suggestion. Kind of like the old “ask an apologist” section, but you have different experts for different questions. I don’t know.

As I said, I doubt I’ll be around much after the forums close. It’s all I really used. I’m trying to find a replacement forum, but it’s hard to find the same kind of community with the same traffic. Hoping the other sites pick up as people leave here.

Live streams on YouTube would be interesting.
Don’t they already do that? The video recorded radio call in show, at least. I’m almost sure I’ve watched live streams of that on YouTube.

I think adding to that, more regular answering of chat box questions (as opposed to phone in questions or Facebook questions, which are difficult for people from other countries or without Facebook), would be a neat addition to the live show. But maybe they already do that more than I think they do; I haven’t tuned in live in a while.

Catholic Answers Live sounds like what you’re looking for.

More courses for the School of Apologetics. The two I have completed, Evidence For Catholic Moral Teaching (Trent Horn) and Making Sense of the Inquisition (Christopher Check) were excellent. The bonus in taking these courses is the further study/reading recommendations.

I definitely agree with much of what you said. I’d like to see more of “how to be Catholic in today’s world” type of posts. That’s something I’ve struggled with personally.

Yes I’m a Catholic…but my boss just walked up, lied, caused an ethical dilemma…then gaslighted me and tried to get me fired because he’s afraid I might report him…I’m trying to respect authority, but how may I respond in good conscience?

Or…I’m scrupulous what’s a good approach to take…

Or…my priest said to “not worry “ about my daughter who told me she us having an abortion, because it’s nudge nudge her choice. What are my rights, and who should I talk to?

This type of thing.

I would like to see more people speaking to their priest before posting. Perhaps a note to that effect could help posters, particularly posters with scruples, mental health issues, and purity issues. I hope more people contact their priest in future.

Also, for some reason, people sometimes picked on the original poster. If Catholic Answers could have stated to the original poster to be as detailed as possible in the first post, some of these problems could be avoided.

Finally, it would help to require at least fifteen people to flag a post before moderators would be called upon to look at it. But even then, the poster of the flagged post should have the first opportunity to change the post the way he’d like. Censorship should be highly rare, perhaps once per month, and only in the most egregious cases. That way, we could have better discussions.

Thank you all the same to the site (CAF) and to the people who wrote in. 'Til we meet again!
I’ve learned a lot, particularly that evangelizing needs to begin with church members. When I was in a pro-life group, they wanted to distribute pro-life flyers at the back of Catholic churches, which I couldn’t understand. I thought they would be preaching to the choir. Now, I understand.

I’m envisioning this concept as “Catholic Answers Live” in a Q& A format similar to the Busted Halo podcast. I agree that there is not enough slice of life Catholic advice. Most Catholic media seems to be focused on apologetics or news.

Excellent ideas. Unfortunately, it assumes that the CA forums would continue, but I think they are shutting down.

Instead of closing down the forum, lock it into read only mode and leave it in place so people can read through it.

What you would like to see Catholic Answers do further in the future?

Whilst I understand the decision not to archive the forum - I do think the Ask An Apologist section should be saved/archived for future reference. In the past I have searched this section and feel the answers given were excellent. It’d be a shame to loose all these good works.

I would love to see CA apologize for allowing the mods to abuse and silence so many people over the years. So many Catholics were silenced and banned over the years, simply for defending or promoting the traditional Catholic faith. If you made any criticism, even if it were true, about any post V2 pope, you were permabanned. This is my 5th or 6th account. It doesn’t really matter to me anymore though, since the Holy Spirit has led me into Orthodoxy. But looking back at the close of the CAF era, I think a show of respect for their users that they actually cared about what so many of us have gone through, would have been nice. But oh well, what can you do?

I kindof agree with you on this. Some of my posts were deleted on the grounds that they violated community guidelines. I had a difficult time understanding why those posts violated community guidelines.

It was censorship, plain and simple. If you criticized communion in the hand for it’s start as acts of open defiance to Rome’s expressed wishes and point out how it leads to our Lord’s body being abused (as without the use of a paten, crumbs of the Host will inevitably fall to the floor and be trampled by those in line for communion), and you’ll get flagged because you “didn’t respect the legitimate practice of other catholics”.

On a side note, I think we’re talking on another forum. Are you using this username on the Catholic Common Sense forum? On there my username is SlavaIsusuChristu.

Sad to see a very favorite online “society” close down. Thanks to everyone.🙏

Honestly, I don’t know that anything could replace a social interactive forum. There are a lot of educational information now online, about Catholic religion and about anything really, but the reason why social media such as Instagram, Youtube, Reddit, and even the website Quora are so popular is because of the interactive perspective of them.

People do not just want to be “preached at” or just information, they want interaction. Humans do not live on an island so to speak, they want other Christians to be able to discuss topics about Catholicism and current events etc. These days in some countries it is very impossible to talk religion to many, face to face, as it is not PC and has become a social taboo.

So anything Catholic Answers should do in the future should involve interactive and social community basis imo.
