What would you Moms really like for Mother's Day?

I would like another charm for my bracelet - it’s one of those Italian flat type things - and I’d like a sweet card from my husband, one that does NOT have little bears/dogs/cats/mice on it with little captions like “sometimes we fight - but we always make up…” ICK. I’d like a mushy “you are the best mother in the whole world” type card. And homemade ones from the kids. And breakfast in bed. And flowers. And chocoates. And a new outfit. Or two. And a trip to Hawaii…

Hey, you asked what I’d like… not what I’ll get! 😉

When I became a mother for the first time 15 years ago, I was under the mistaken impression that I would actually get to choose where we would go out to eat on Mother’s Day.

Instead, my MIL gets to choose.

Every. Single. Year.

What would I like? I would like to choose where we’re going out to dinner!

Just once!

Gads! That’s just awful! What’s a daughter in law to do? Offer it up I suppose?

I hope she at least picks someplace you like also.

Here’s a smile for you - (not her) 🙂

Oh Kay Cee. I feel for you. In my case, it’s my mother. This year, she’s out of town. My MIL is going out with friends, and she’s pretty casual about these types of things. So, I got to pick what **I **wanted:D I chose, staying at home and having a picnic!!!
I’m so happy!!! I hope you have a Blessed Mother’s Day and at least get to pick something **YOU **want to do.

God Bless

You see, this is the kind of list I was looking for. 😃 Next year I’ll phrase my question better. 😛

BTW, Carol Marie, I’m with you. Special treatment for moms saying that they love us (and the trip to Hawaii isn’t bad either-🙂 )

Wow. I hope you get your wish this year.

While my kids are small, I hate going out to eat on Mother’s Day. Too many people and too much noise. My husband can’t cook so I’m teaching my son and daughter how to make a Mother’s Day dinner this year. Crockpot Shredded Beef, mashed potatoes, green beans and a salad. Strawberries for dessert. (And I don’t have to do dishes today either!! :dancing: )

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!!!

My wish is that my family all go to the same parish. To worship as one family at the same Mass.

For my husband and son do to a few little thoughtful things for me without my having to ask.

This morning I washed dishes, vacuumed, cleaned the bathrooms, and bathed the cat without anyone to help me and they could have. If I’d asked, they’d have helped but it would mean so much to me if they would do little things without my having to ask.

Oh–and I have a leg injury and shouldn’t have been doing any of those things but, as I said, I hate to have to plead for help with it should be there without my having to ask.

And believe me, I do plenty for them, over and above the basics, and they never have to ask me.

You know, you remind me of the advice my own Mom gave me when I married----Train them right from the beginning. LOL. I didn’t follow that advice because I was in love and wanted to do everything I could for him. Well, it’s taken some years for me to heed her advice and now I tell him what I need. (Doesn’t always work but I try).

I have 4 children and so it’s always a work in progress but my sweetheart has learned to tolerate my moods and I’ve learned to tolerate his. He’s doing a lot more now but I still have to ask him for specific things. (May be a “guy” thing. They need specifics. 😉 )

Now, I have to focus on my son.

See? It’s a “guy” thing. Like finding the catsup bottle in the refrigerator. If it doesn’t jump up and land in their hands, they can’t find it!! I say to them, “Did you ever hear about moving things???”

Go ahead. Be specific. They’ll feel better and so will you. :yup:

To all the moms (and future moms) out there, I heard the nicest sermon about Mothers yesterday at Our Lady’s Shrine in DC. One statement was from the Talmud, it says “God could not be everywhere, so He made mothers.”

And the other said " Mothers are the one person we can subsititute for everyone." This last one threw me at first, but when I thought about my mom, I remembered that before anyone else came into my life, she was my whole world, no one else mattered.

Just in case anybody’s wondering, no–I did not get to choose where we went for dinner. As usual, my MIL chose. We ended up standing in line at Hometown Buffet, then waited another half an hour for a table. It was miserable.

I suggested that we alternate years for choosing: one year for my MIL, another for my sister-in-law, and a third for me. This idea was rejected.

Someone suggested I offer it up. Good advice!

Kay Cee, who rejected the idea? MIL? Your husband?

I don’t know. You know your situation best. In my situation, I think I’d complain to my husband—very clearly.

However, you know your situation best. Do what you think is right.

What I REALLY would have liked is for my husband to tell me what a great mom I am, and how much they all appreciate everything I do for them! That beats ANY present, IMO. No such luck I’m afraid. Well, I have to count on God’s pat on the back I suppose.🙂

God Bless All You Moms!!!

Actually, it was my husband who rejected the idea. He will not stand up to his mother. Period.

I’ve tried standing up to her myself. You wouldn’t believe what a chilly reaction that produces. She actually stiffens, refuses to even look at me. Then she starts in with a guilt trip (You don’t love me, etc.)

I put up with it only for the sake of peace in the family.

On the other hand, she has been there often when I needed a sitter. She has helped out with the kids many times. Usually we get along fine.

It’s just that I feel like she gets Mother’s Day and I never do.
