I have found myself speaking to men and women at work, and the topic of relationship comes up. Most of these individuals are either married, or were together with the father/mother of their kids but separated.

In November I broke up with the girl whom I dated for over 4 years. A month and a half after it happened I went and spoke to my priest, and he asked me, "had God shown you a day before you asked your ex to be your girlfriend, what would of happened for the next 4 years, would you had still done it? I told him yes I would of. Even if we live the same life 7 more times I would of said yes. Having said that, I did and have said that even though she was and is a great girl, I would not go back with her.

Having said that returning to the first paragraph, when I ask these men and women about their lives, and I ask them what the priest told me, 22 out of 25 people have said no.

The sad thing is that these are really good men and women who seem to be people who would make a great father, mother but unfortunately they came across the wrong person.

That made me think, if God came to you and said, theirs people out there that are really regretful for their decisions which they have made in their life. If God said to you right now, "would you give up your life, so that the world as we know it begins from the very beginning, so that people can learn from their mistakes and not make the same mistakes again?
The reason I taught of that was because in the gospel that was read on Sunday which came from John, Jesus tells us that he would lay his life down for all of us.

Most people jump into marriage too quickly now. They don’t wait until the infatuation phase is over and wake up too late. Also, divorce is so easy now, so they don’t want to work on their marriage when it has a problem.

The Church is trying to slow it down by requiring a 6 month waiting period before marriage and an engagement class. Living together is also a problem now and some get married when a pregnancy happens. They feel pressured into marriage.

In your case you had no children to worry about, it’s the children who are the ones who suffer when the adults put their needs first. If one does not make up their minds that marriage is for life than they are in for a hard time.

When infatuation wears off, incentive or even cause to act kinda falls off too.

This said, by all means wait and see, but don’t hope for your loving feeling to die first before you actually act on it, that’d be having it backwards, I think.

You really only ask one question in here and I want to make sure to answer it. “would you give up your life, so that the world as we know it begins from the very beginning, so that people can learn from their mistakes and not make the same mistakes again?” My answer is maybe. I’m not a fan of pain but as far as giving up my life for others, I would. In fact, I’m hoping if the creator of the universe is asking, I would give it unconditionally.

As to the rest of it, there was one serious relationship in my past that I wish had not happened. It was a big mistake on my part.

Nah, they’ll just make all new mistakes.

On the other hand, would I give up my life so that they might understand it’s possible to live with your “mistakes” and make a better life in the future?

Maybe.

That’s what priests are for, but I’m not feeling called to that…

And the question is just not about relationships, but maybe during a time period got heavily involved in drugs and alcohol and got away from their family. Maybe in that time one of their close family members dies and they didn’t get a chance to be with them. You know something like that, which makes you say, arrgh, had I been a little bit more mature or understanding.

That’s why I asked that, if God were to say, Ok you guys, this person is giving up their life so that everyone can have a redo in their lives. Yes I understand some people will still make the same mistake, but I think, that 40-60% would say, I won’t make that mistake again and actually be better off.

Oh, man. Sure, there are things I’d do differently, but I dodged some bullets, too. It is better to be grateful for the blessings you have been given, grateful that your mistakes weren’t more costly than they were and taught you what they did with as much net gain as they did, and move forward. You’re on the right track! 👍

Amen, amen

There but by the Grace of God go I.
