I am almost done with a commentary on Revelation. It is concise and literal. I have my editing to do, and I have some ideas for it. I am interested in some feedback. I want to know what you would like to have for a commentary to help you learn and understand the book of Revelation. I know that there are many different people on here who have various levels of understanding about Revelation, and I am looking for ideas about how I can make it easier to understand.

As for my intentions, I want this to be an easy to use commentary that will allow anybody to get a basic understanding of the message of Revelation based upon sound traditional Catholic doctrine. I am providing quick summaries of each chapter to tell you what each chapter is about, and providing straight to the point explanations for each passage. I am trying to avoid something that I think many commentaries on Revelation do, and that is avoid making the commentary as confusing and hard to understand as the book of Revelation itself. I want to make it simple, yet enlightening.

Thanks in advance!

Hey John, you are ambitious! First Genesis and now Revelation - my favorite topics. 🙂 There’s actually a great thread here by Patrick457 that could be a big help for you - The Book of Revelation-step by step - maybe you’ve already seen it, but its worth a plug anyway. 👍

I think the most important thing (without giving away any secrets!) is to explain what all the different symbols mean. And also, the structure of the book is important to know because it jumps around in time a lot (PM me if you want info on that). Good luck!

Thanks Luke!

Good ideas. I have been working on a chronological order chart for it, because just like you said, it does jump around from different time periods, which makes it difficult to follow. As for the symbolic language, I have gone through and tackled each passage. With the help from the Church Fathers, Doctors of the Church, Catechism, etc, and years of personal study and meditation on Revelation, I have felt drawn to take this project on. I’ve got about a week left of editing and doing final touches.
