Can someone explain to me the basic difference in existentialism and relativism. I am not looking for any kind of debate, but would like to understand what the two mean and their differences. I am not into philosophies so I just need a general answer and how they might relate to religion.

Thanks

Not sure about Relativism, but Existentialists believe that life has no value beyond that which we ourselves give to it. There is no God and we have no intrinsic value. What we do with our lives determines the value of it.

So basically it is the power of ourselves and not a power, God, within us that determines who and what we become; what we become and do is all of our own doing?

Exactly. You are born as a blank slate and it is up to you give your life worth and meaning.

Relativism is the worldview that holds there are no absolute truths, everything depends on circumstances, perspective, culture, etc.

The relativist will say stuff like, “Abortion is wrong for me, but I can’t say it’s wrong for everyone.”
