i was reading a old prayers and heavenly promises book and prayers in honor of the seven dolor’s of the blessed virgin Mary and was wondering what they are and how one goes about praying them i mean can you pray them alone
 
Dolor means pain in Latin and some other Latin languages.
I would say this then refers to Our Lady of Sorrows, the seven sorrows being:

The Prophecy of Simeon. (Luke 2:34-35) or the Circumcision of Christ
The Flight into Egypt. (Matthew 2:13)
The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple. (Luke 2:43-45)
Mary Meets Jesus on the Way to Calvary.
Jesus Dies on the Cross. (John 19:25)
Mary Receives the Body of Jesus in Her Arms. (Matthew 27:57-59)
The Body of Jesus Is Placed in the Tomb. (John 19:40-42)

There are several devotions, such as Rosary of the Seven Sorrows of Mary and the black scapular of the seven dolours of Mary.
 
SO strange!!! I Asked the same question a few hours ago to myslef… I saw a chaplet to this… and I wondered, then I thought american currency 😊

**DOLORS, SEVEN. The **seven sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They are traditionally identified with the sorrows that Mary experienced in her association with Christ: the prophecy of Simeon (Luke 2:34-35), the flight into Egypt (Matthew 2:13-21), the three-day separation from Jesus in Jerusalem (Luke 2:41-50), and the four incidents related to Christ’s Passion, as described or implied by the Evangelists; namely, Mary’s meeting Jesus on the way to Calvary, the Crucifixion, the removal of Christ’s body from the Cross, and the burial in the tomb. There were two feasts in honor of the seven sorrows: the Friday after Passion Sunday, extended to the universal Church by Pope Benedict XIII in 1727; and September 15, first granted to the Servite Order in 1668 and extended in 1814 to the whole Church by Pope Pius VII. Since the revision of the Roman calendar after the Second Vatican Council, only the feast on September 15 is observed, but its name has been changed to Our Lady of Sorrows. (Etym. Latin dolor, pain, sorrow.)

‘V’ is ‘versicle’ and ‘R’ is ‘response’. The above is from the opening of the Divine Office (the official prayer of the Latin Church). So one person would say the “O God come to my…” and the other would make the reply “O lord make haste…”. You can say the versicle and response yourself is you are on your own.

It’s a tradition to use the opening of the Hours as above (the canonical hours of the Divine Office, which is split into 7 Hours with Psalms and other prayers) at the beginning of the rosary instead of the Apostles Creed etc.

For example, I say the rosary like so:
V. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
R. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
V. Thou shalt opens my lips, [making the sign of the cross on my lips] O Lord.
R. And my mouth shall shew forth Thy praise.
V. O God come to my assistance [whilst blessing my self].
R. O Lord make haste to help me.
V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.
R. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Alleluia.

It can be applied to any rosary based prayer including the Chaplet of the Seven Dolours of Our Lady.
 
Basicly “Dolor” means a sorrow. Hence the term seven Dolors of Mary, which have already been listed here.
 
dolor- is sorrow, pain, suffering. Especially of the heart.
