The Church’s fasting and abstinence requirements for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday state that Catholics may partake of one full meatless meal and, for strength if needed, two smaller instances of eating as long as both of those do not add up to one full meal. How is “full meal” defined? In some countries, a “full meal” may consist of 3-5 courses. In my life, due to time constraints, a “full meal” often consists of a vegetarian protein bar with less than 200 calories or an ounce of string cheese. Please advise and may God bless you!

There is no need to scruple over the matter. Just eat what is for you a “full meal” and be at peace.
