Hello,
I’m in a mixed marriage. My husband was raised on the fringes of Christianity, which means he only knows certain aspects of his faith. I’m a cradle Catholic and believe in my faith quite deeply. We are married in the church, we go to church regularly and the children are being raised Catholic which I’m blessed.
My question is, my husband feels that it’s acceptable to receive communion although he’s not Catholic at other Catholic churches we may attend outside of our local parish. I’ve tried explaining that he’s technically not in “full communion with the faith” because he has issues with other aspects of Catholicism and he’s not gone through RCIA.
I approached my pastor about this and my concern over him receiving communion vs a blessing, but he only said, I knew what I was marrying. I don’t find that as a very good answer.
Do you have any suggestions as how I can best explain in simple terms why not to receive communion?
