What's a good christmas movie (this has nothing to do with catholicism)

Am I the only one who absolutely hates A Christmas Story with a passion? It’s just so weird. I’ve seen it a million times, and have never thought any moment of it was funny or entertaining in any sort of way.

I don’t care much for it. If it is on TV and I am not doing anything, I might watch bits of it, but I would rather watch something else. I don’t think of it as funny, but more like a snapshot of one American family’s experience. Some of my extended family love it and are unaware that others definitely do not want it as part of the Christmas Eve get together. Unfortunately, it is always on TV that night. I can’t see why it has replaced It’s a Wonderful Life in that way.

There is a movie called A Child’s Christmas in Wales that my British-American mother loved. I watched it a couple of years ago for the first time. It is really quite lovely. You need to not feel sleepy at all when you start to watch it, because it is so gentle that you nod off. On the other hand, it is very good for relaxing.

One of my sisters enjoys Home for the Holidays, which I think is pretty depressing.

THE BISHOP’S WIFE…the 1940 one with Loretta Young, David Niven, and Cary Grant. It is about an Episcopalian bishop, his wife, and an angel who is assigned to help them. Warm fuzzies five stars!

A CHRISTMAS CAROL…the older, the better. Great to compare how various directors handled the story.

No one mentioned National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. It’s hilarious.

Someone else mentioned Elf, which is another great one, but I’ve seen it too many times.

The one to avoid at all costs is the live action Grinch, with Jim Carey. It’s absolutely awful. I tried watching it twice and quite both times. Awful.

Yeeeeeah. I never saw Grinch in it’s entirety but I did catch the Grinch use a coarse word to describe the quality of the snow powder he was riding on (after his heart grew 3 sizes). The movie was then promptly turned off by a parent. I don’t really miiiind rude words in my movies. But this struck me as particularly low and a complete waste of time. What does anything like that accomplish? Certainly not realism or a sense of anger/upset.

My church is/was showing it as part of a movie night. I saw the ad and immediately thought someone didn’t do their research. At least it was the 2nd film shown that night.
