We are having company at our place this year, and my hubby typically likes Sam Adams beer, or something, but I and the company coming, like wine. I’m not a big drinker…really have an occasional glass of red wine every now and again, but I’d like to buy a special bottle for our company…any thoughts to what goes nicely with turkey, etc? I am thinking a light chardonnay?

Please let me know brands…I tried Chalk Hill for the first time last year at my sister’s…it was heavenly. I had no headache the next day. I get migraines easily from wine, and I have to be careful with my choices.

I’m thinking in the $40-50 range…Look forward to your replies…

RED WINE is always the best with a big meal!!! yummmy!
I enjoy red wine, myself…but is it appropriate for turkey, do you think? I usually have brought out red when we are making italian…

If you have any brand names you can think of, that would be helpful too! Grazie! 🎉

I’m a fan of chardonnay with turkey. Unfortunately I don’t have a brand to suggest- we usually buy local wine (Michigan and Ontario wineries). For another white, New Zealand has been exporting some delicious Sauvignon Blancs recently. I’ve been buying the Villa Maria brand, but it’s on the cheap end, $12-$15 per bottle depending on the store.

My all-time favorite wine, the 2003 Toccata Riserva from Mandolina in Santa Barbara County, would probably be divine with anything (it was amazing with a beef roast on New Year’s Day) but is hard to get. We bought ours right at the tasting room, but it looks like you can order it online here (under “mandolina” then “red wines” on the menu pages). Hmm…might have to order a bottle as a Christmas treat for our family. 🙂

If you’ve got a decent wine shop near you, I’m sure they’d be happy to direct you to something that would be perfect with turkey and fit in your price range. I know we’ve gotten some good tips from our local shop.

$40-$50 is what one may pay for a Champagne. For a wine for Thanksgiving, 1/4 to half that. My favorites have been either local (Ohio, specifically Firelands in Sandusky, OH, which one can buy online,) or an Australian wine. Gewurztraminner or Riesling, or another white grape for a meal with Turkey. Chardonnay reminds me of summertime meals. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon is for red meat. You might try some Port. Wine or beer can be used for a turkey too, accd’g to a recipe I found at the Toledo Blade. A favorite reviewer of wines in our area had died this year: He is Father Robert Kirtland. He always recommended a Firelands Gewurztraminner, or perhaps a Johannisburg Reisling for the holidays.

How about a Rotisserie Turkey?
