Both. That is one animal I’ve never kept, oddly enough. Pet stores sell them here, and some enthusiasts want chinchillas with unusual fur, etc., and so they buy directly from breeders.Are Chinchillas sold in pet shops? Or through registered breeders?
As far as I know yes,along with hamsters and gerbils etc.Australia takes a better safe than sorry approach to rodent like animals being introduced as they would wreak havoc on the environment here if they were to escape,be set free.In the past we’ve had huge problems with introduced rabbit populations exploding.Various diseases have had to be released to try and control them but still some will be immune and they breed up again.Is it illegal to own chinchillas in Australia?
