Thinking about mom and dad and the sayings they used to have.

My mom would say “Trust God, but tie your horse to a tree.”
My dad would say “If I tell you a rooster can pull a box car, hook 'im up.”

😁 😁 😁

One of my grandmother’s told me that Thunder was the sound of the devil beating his wife.

Mom: “Always use the talent, skills, and gifts given by God for His greater glory and to help other people.”

Dad: “Some day, you’ll be a dad. You need to learn how to be responsible as you grow for your future wife and children.”

My (very cynical) grandfather said that employment was nothing more than selling your time, so try to get highest money for it

My mom always said “God helps those that help themselves.”

My dad used to say that too. And in a way it’s true. Labor is a commodity.

My dad used to say “if I tell you a rooster can dip snuff you just wonder which pocket he keeps it in”

My mom would warn us against gossip and talking about private family matters (we had an interesting extended family, but mom had a horror of people knowing unflattering things about our family):

“La ropa sucia se lava en casa” (Dirty laundry is washed at home.)

And my dad would always tell me, “Never be afraid to learn something you don’t need to know.” He was a great influence on me and encouraged me to read extensively and I credit my success in becoming a published author to him!

My dad has always said shrink a problem by 75%,meaning worry less and don’t be over dramatic 😅

“You can kill more flies with honey than with vinegar.”

The one I heard more often was, “You’ll never amount to anything.”

My family wasn’t big on old sayings, but one of the old foremen I used to work with in construction was notorious for overordering material. Whenever the subject came up he would say, “Better to be looking at it than looking for it.”
